fire department, and I’d be able to keep on driving, but with him home, it’s time for me to suck it up and start adulting.
After cutting the engine, I push out of my car and let out a heavy breath.
Why do I feel so nervous?
I step up in front of his door and once again have to give myself a pep-talk just to be able to knock, and the second I do, I hear his voice calling out from within. “Can you get that?”
Shit. He must have someone over.
I briefly consider bailing. This isn’t exactly a conversation I wish to have with an audience, but before I have the chance to bolt, the door flies open, and I find myself standing before Jessa.
Fuck me. Could today get any worse?
My gaze instantly travels her body. She looks as though she only just fell out of bed with her messy hair and Bull’s shirt that falls to her knees, making my stomach twist in agony. Maybe if she wasn’t so beautiful it might actually hurt less. But she’s exactly the kind of girl I would have pictured Bull being with.
What the fuck was I thinking coming here?
“Ugh,” Jessa groans, looking at me with distaste. “What are you doing here? I thought I might have been lucky enough that you got the hint, and I got rid of you.”
I double-check that my resting bitch face is well intact and try my hardest to avoid her bullshit. “I need to speak to Bull.”
Jessa leans up against the doorframe. “No chance in hell,” she says with amusement in her tone. Her eyes shine as though she's laughing at me. “Look, you need to move on. Bull has no interest in keeping you around anymore. You were a little bit of fun on the side, and now he’s done with that.”
“I just need to speak to him.”
“I don’t think you’re understanding me,” Jessa says, taking a step forward while trying to appear intimidating. “Whatever you had with him is over. He’s marrying me, and I’m giving him a child.”
Subtle movement has my eyes dropping to her stomach to where her hand is currently resting, and my world instantly comes crashing down around me. I feel as though I've been punched in the stomach. “You’re pregnant?”
“Are you hard of hearing?” she questions, taking way too much enjoyment out of this. “Yes, I’m pregnant with his baby. We’re finally going to be a family, and you’re not a part of that equation. He's happy, so you need to leave us be.”
Well, I guess that answers all my questions. I really was a game to him. He’s having another woman’s child and clearly, whatever they have together is serious.
I’m such a fool.
“Who’s at the door?” Bull’s voice rings out from somewhere in the house as I hear him getting closer.
I start backing away, nowhere near ready to see him now. Jessa’s eyes pierce into mine with victory lacing her features. “It’s absolutely no one, honey.” She says with an arrogant smirk spreading across her vile face.
With that, I find myself running, feeling the tears falling down my cheeks.
I’m such a fucking fool.
I drop down into my car and slam the door moments after hearing Bull’s furious curses cut through my panic. Without a doubt, I know he’s coming for me, so without a backward glance, I shove the key in the ignition, and get the fuck out of here before I make myself look any more of a fool than what I already am.
CHAPTER 17
BULL
“FUCK,” I roar, racing out of the house as I watch Amelia take off like a bat out of hell. “Fuck.”
Fury tears through me. How could I let this happen? Again.
I turn on Jessa who’s been standing in my doorway watching the show with a fucking smirk pulling at her lips. “What did you say to her?” I demand, getting right up in her face, not giving a shit that I’m screaming at a fucking pregnant chick.
“I just told her the truth,” she shrugs, but the chuckle in her tone tells me that she knew exactly what kind of damage she was inflicting. “What was I supposed to do? Lie to the bitch? She seemed awfully surprised. I’m shocked you haven’t told her yet.”
I step in closer. “What exactly did you say?”
Jessa casually leans against the door frame, checking out her bright red nail polish as though this conversation is beneath her. “The truth,” she shrugs. “I told her that we’re going to be a
