it, she whispered, “You’ll be a great daddy, Jordie.”
He moved his nose along her belly before laying his head softly on it. “I can’t wait.”
She wanted to smile, but her heart wouldn’t allow her. He was already invested; she could see it in his eyes. He believed this baby would come in nine months, while she was worried that she might lose it. It had been like that since she found out. When she got past the three-day mark, she cried for hours. And now, she was just waiting. But why wait when she had a man like this, holding her and looking at her like she was giving him the world.
“Me either,” she whispered and he hugged her tightly. “Such a surprise though, huh?”
He grinned as he nodded. “Yeah, I guess my boys are strong.”
She smiled as she looked away, covering her face. “Actually, I didn’t have an IUD in. I forgot to go get it put back in after the first miscarriage.”
He paused and then scoffed. “That’s funny, it’s like it was meant to be.”
“That’s what Lacey said.”
He grinned. “So she knows?”
She nodded, looking back at him as she moved her fingers through his hair. “Yeah, but I don’t want to tell anyone else yet.”
His brows came together. “Why?”
She looked away, biting her lip, but he smacked her thigh lightly. “Don’t look away. Why don’t you want to tell anyone? I’m five seconds from making a Facebook post.”
She scoffed. “You’re such a Facebook whore.”
He made a face as she looked back at him. “Maybe, but that’s not the discussion right now. Why don’t you want to tell anyone?”
She worked her lip, her eyes locked with his, and she hoped he’d just know so she wouldn’t have to say it, but he looked at her expectantly. Letting out a long breath, she said, “I could lose it. I don’t want to say anything till the second trimester.”
His furrow deepened as he shook his head before sitting up to look down at her. His eyes were intense, serious, as he said, “No, baby. This child, our child is going to be born, and we are going to love it and raise it, I promise you. I feel it, this one is gonna make it. We are together, we are happy, it isn’t going anywhere.”
“You can’t promise that, Jordie,” she said, a tear running down the side of her face, and she had to look away again before she fully started crying.
Covering her body with his, he fell between her legs before cupping her face. “You listen to me, Kacey King. I probably can’t promise, but I will.”
“Don’t put that pressure on me, Jordie. I already feel like a failure for losing the first one,” she admitted. And as soon as the words left her lips, she realized that she still wasn’t over the loss of the baby she’d carried for three short days.
“Don’t you dare,” he demanded. “You have no control over that, baby. I understand that, and no matter what, I love you. So please, don’t stress over this. We are supposed to be happy together, so fucking happy.”
Covering his hands with hers, she nodded. “You’re right, I just don’t want to add to any anxiety you’re having right now.”
He shot her a goofy grin and shrugged. “What anxiety? All I feel is happiness, because I’m gonna be a daddy and you’re gonna be the mommy.” Smiling, she felt her tears come faster down her face as he pressed his nose to hers. “Now be happy,” he demanded.
“I am,” she promised, and the side of his mouth curved up as he let go of her face to take her by the back of her knee, opening her wider. She didn’t realize what he was doing, but he soon entered her with one thrust, taking her breath away. Wide-eyed, she looked up at him as he lifted himself off her, pushing deeper inside her, his fingers biting into her skin as he pulled out and then thrust back in. He held her gaze steadily. The motion was one they both knew well, but it still felt like the first time as he moved in and out of her body.
Reaching up, she cupped his jaw, her thumb getting lost in his beard as he turned in her hand, biting her palm. She hissed out a breath and his eyes cut to hers before he thrust into her, his lips pressing into her palm as she cried out. As he looked down
