wrapping around his neck. Er’it pulled her body up his until she clung to him, wedged tight against his side. Feeling his mouth slanting over hers, tongue delving deep inside her, she whined low in her throat and rocked her hips against the sturdy bulk of him.

“Did he make you cry out, hm? Did those pretty eyes of yours shine for him?” Er’it asked through a vicious growl as he moved away from her lips to suck and bite at the line of her neck.

“No, stop,” Aida whimpered, not sure what she was asking for in that moment, not as she squirmed against his searching hand as it tugged her trousers open and slid down the front of her. Cupping her mound, his fingers slipped through slick folds.

“I make you feel this way. Only me,” Er’it snarled, shoving his fingers deep inside her and pumping them with swift jerks of his wrist while Aida writhed.

“Please!” Aida’s breath labored in stuttering gasps, her head falling to his shoulder. As she clung to the savage male whose brutal actions only made her pleasure soar higher, liquid fire surged through her veins and tangled through her limbs. Aida arched and bucked as she sought to take his fingers deeper, frustrated they couldn’t give her the delirious ache she craved and wishing they were something else.

“That’s right, princess. You live for me now. None other can give you this.”

Aida’s back arched, sending her gaze to the sky soaring above them. Hands twisting in the cloth covering Er’it’s chest, she moaned and whined at the cruel stars above reflected in her gaze. Heat surged in savage waves, crashing against her soul to build an inferno. It ran rampant through her, setting the night alight with lurid flames etched in pale blue as she cried out and shuddered when he touched that spot within her, grinding his thumb against the delicate nub of flesh he so often used to destroy her.

Ribbons of fire encircled her limbs, the cold glare of starshine turning the dark clearing into day as Aida’s cry echoed through the trees. She shivered with the intensity of sensation, a sweltering pool exploding against frigid ice as golden reds and pallid blues crashed against one another far up into the canopy. A cascade of sparks limned the trees in unnatural light as her body tightened. Muscles fluttered around his driving fingers, seeking something they would never give as she screamed, her vision sheeting to starstruck blackness.

“You are mine,” Er’it murmured against her crown as he pushed Aida to his shoulder, cradling her against his side as their ragged breaths rushed to fill the silence of the startled night.

Chapter 7

Aida

With a quiet moan slipping over bruised lips, Aida pried her eyes open to the deeper shadows under Er’it’s jaw. Taking a deep breath saturated in cedar and musk, she licked her lips to taste the salty flesh.

“Be still.”

Command given in a harsh rasp, Aida startled. The jolt earned a hiss and his arm tightening to a painful iron band across her back to crush her against Er’it’s side.

“What is it?” Aida asked in a rushed whisper, the hand still caught in the back of his shirt crumpling the fabric.

“Just be still while I deal with this, Omega.”

“What are you doing?”

“Be. Still.”

While his curt tone dug deep, Aida heard nothing more than the roughened grit of his lilting voice and the way his breathing echoed harsh and ragged through his chest, heart stumbling in the thumping against her ear. Some sense of urgency she could never explain had her easing away, moving his arm by narrow inches until he muttered something outrageous and crude in his language and toppled her back into the dirt with a hard shove.

Aida’s eyes rounded at what she saw. Shirt torn at his shoulder, the flesh around the arrow was shaded to gruesome purple, the wound itself edged in sticky green muck. Spidery fingers of sludgy wine worked their way across his coppery skin in a wide circle. Aida slapped a hand over her mouth, looking to his thigh to see much the same, though somehow worse.

“What…” Swallowing hard, she took a deep breath and went to kneel at his side. “What is that?”

“Poison most likely. Your new lover apparently doesn’t take chances.”

“Stop it! You’re… By the Abyss, are you dying?” Aida demanded in a thready shriek.

“Wondering how long before you can run back to him?” Er’it’s lips slid into a malicious twist, sneering at her as he held the shaft
