No Matter What (The Billionaires of Sawgrass #4) - Delaney Cameron Page 0,79

walked to the parking lot, he asked how her wedding plans were going.

“We’ve got the photographer, the church and the reception venue locked down. I’ve ordered my dress and picked out the invitations. Our consult with Robin about the cake is next week.” She sent him a quick sideways glance. “You better hurry up and propose. Her wedding schedule is filling up fast.”

Aunt Leigh had been saying the same thing for the last two weeks. When he pointed out how vocal she’d been about his father’s hasty courtship and marriage, she told him the situations couldn’t be more different.

Reece held open the security gate so Sylvie could walk through. “I’ll keep that in mind when making my plans.”

“You’re not fooling me. Your plans have been made for weeks, if not months. You’re just waiting for the right moment to push the execute button. How are the bread-baking lessons going?”

“I’m learning a lot, and not all of it is related to baking. It’s amazing what you can find to do while waiting for the bread to rise.”

Sylvie grinned. “No need to elaborate. I get the picture. Have a nice weekend.”

“You, too.”

As he sat trapped in the usual traffic gridlock, Reece thought about the way his life had changed in the last month. Gone were the solitary meals, lonely nights, and rudderless existence. Robin and Owen had become the center of his universe. They’d added meaning and purpose to the things he did on a daily basis.

Aunt Leigh wasn’t the only person pleased by this turn of events. Addison had been ‘thrilled to pieces’. In typical fashion, she couldn’t resist claiming she’d known all along which way the wind was blowing. When pressed for details, she cited the conversation she and Reece had following the weekend in Savannah back in April. According to her, he’d given himself away when he danced around her questions about Robin.

Telling Maxine and his father had been more involved. Reece had felt it would be better to explain the situation in person so he took an afternoon off and drove to Savannah. Maxine had heard him out in silence, an unusual enough occurrence to make Reece fear the worst. Her comments afterward had dispelled that notion. It turned out that Wade’s single-minded devotion to his career had long been a concern of hers. She’d hoped meeting Robin would change that. This admission had been shocking enough on its own, but there was more. Maxine had gone on to say that she was glad they weren’t losing Robin, and that she was looking forward to welcoming her back to Savannah in the near future.

Robin had been tearfully grateful when he related it to her the following day. At first he’d thought her gratitude was prompted by the relief of knowing Maxine bore her no ill will. But she’d soon made it clear that the tears as well as the sweet kisses that had accompanied them were entirely due to the fact that he’d taken so much time and effort out of his busy schedule on her behalf.

The funny thing was he hadn’t given it a second thought. This is what being in love was all about. Robin had expressed a concern about meeting his stepmother. It was his job to make that as easy as possible.

Robin was transferring a batch of chocolate cupcakes to cooling racks when she heard someone enter the shop. “Be right with you,” she called out.

“No problem,” a nasal-sounding female voice answered. “I need time to look around. There are way too many choices.”

Unless she was mistaken, the person waiting on her was Trina Farmer. That lady’s once-frequent visits to Truly Scrumptious had slowed to a trickle over the last few months. Robin had at first wondered about it, and then decided it might be the best thing all around.

Taking a deep breath, she pinned a smile on her face and left the safety of the kitchen. All hope that she’d been wrong faded when she saw the familiar blonde head.

“How are you, Trina?”

The other woman swung around to face her.

“I was doing great until my husband slipped on the bathroom floor and broke his leg.”

“Oh, no! I’m so sorry to hear that.”

Trina waved a languid hand. “No one is sorrier than me. We were supposed to be on a cruise to Mexico this week. We had to postpone it until November.” She pointed to the glass pedestal cake stand sitting on the counter. “Those cupcakes look very summery. What
