Never Give Up - Heidi Lis Page 0,86
that has come in, and then organize it based on their appointments? I’m so behind, and could use the help.”
Eyeing the stacks of papers on his desk, it’s no wonder he’s confused and behind on work. Not only papers, there are boxes opened and a few unopened. I’m not sure how the hell they kept it all straight this long.
“Sure, bring them up to me and tell me what pile to organize them in.”
He mouths ‘thank-you’ while gathering up the papers.
“How the hell did you ever get any work accomplished?” I ask looking briefly at the stacks of paper.
“I didn’t, but you are the saving grace I have been praying for.” He says, with his hands laced together like he’s praying when a few papers fall to the floor. We both end up laughing.
By the end of the day, order has been restored and I’m super impressed I got it done. The loose papers are filed and labeled. I’m marking names on few of the boxes of equipment when I notice Matt approaching me.
“Holy crap you have been busy today. Run away with me now, Elsa. Leave my brother for the younger, better looking Taylor.” His sexy eyes sparkle as he crosses his fingers.
“You never give up, do ya?” I can’t take him seriously, he just cracks me the hell up. I love him all the more for it, because he brightens my day. Just like a brother!
“Me,” he says pointing a finger at his chest. “Never, it’s too funny to watch my brother get pissed off at me flirting with you.” His humorous smirk fades the instant Micah comes up to stand behind him.
A loud huff escapes his lips before he rolls his eyes at his brother. “Still hitting on my girl, I see.”
Matt happily agrees. “You know it, one day she will see for herself. I’m just better looking than you.” He adjusts his shirt and ducks out of arm’s length of his brother. Good idea, considering Micah is bigger than Matt. Never know when Micah might throw a right hook, jokingly of course.
While I enjoy this fun banter between them, I throw my hands in the air. “You two. I swear, one day, I might turn lesbo and leave ya both.” Figure I might as well have some fun myself.
Suddenly a loud laugh comes out of nowhere. “Oh shit, that one burned.” Trevor walks up throwing his head back, laughing as if that was the funniest things he’s heard in a while.
“Well I, for one, am glad the day is over. El, my love, let’s get out of here.” Rolling his shoulders, Micah looks tense, he totally disregards my attempt at humor.
“Sore shoulders?” I ask.
“Yeah, want to rub them for me?” Micah walks to me and wraps me in a hug.
“Oh Jesus, you two never quit.” Matt uses his hands to break up the sexy gaze between his brother and me. “Hey, that reminds me, I got a call from Tyler.” He snaps his fingers like he totally forgot.
The instant that name leaves Matt’s lips, I tense up and my eyes freeze on Micah. I notice his body stiffens, as well.
“What did he find out?” Micah quietly asks, no emotion behind his words. I realize he might be just as nervous as I am with Tyler finding Michael.
“Not much,” Matt says with a shoulder shrug. “He will stop by soon if he gets any more information.”
“Did he find anything?” This time it’s me asking.
“Yeah, I guess the town you had him in was small enough, so he quickly found the building of public records. Found the day Elsa gave birth, lucky for him, even though the records were sealed, he got the information he needed to start with. Catholic Charities was not much help, but he has resources. We’ll see.” He says with a shoulder shrug.
Sitting here listening to the possibility of us getting closer to finding out where our little boy may be living upsets my stomach. The sudden retching of it sends me barreling to the bathroom to toss my lunch.
“Baby.” Micah gently knocks on the door. I can tell by his voice, he’s more than concerned.
Opening the door, my eyes rest on a worried looking Micah while Matt’s pacing in the other room. Micah kisses my head as I walk out. There are no words to describe how I’m feeling. On one hand, I want to know where my baby is, how he’s doing. On the other hand, I’m scared of what it will
