Lured into Love (Blossom in Winter #2) - Melanie Martins Page 0,16
him, he strolls over in my direction, and as he sits beside me, his delicious scent takes over me. And just like in his office, it awakens all my senses, causing a flood of wetness between my thighs. Regardless of my current medical state, I hope he’s not too tired to make love.
“How are you feeling? Did you take your medicine already?” he asks, keeping his voice so calm and caring.
“Yeah, I did,” I tell him, licking my lips. Then I pull down the sheets, revealing my nightdress. “Um, Cynthia got me new pajamas,” I tease. “What do you think?”
Letting out a quick chuckle, his eyes gleam like jewels at the view, and a smile laced with naughtiness and desire settles on his lips—one that makes my cheeks blossom with heat. His gaze remains fixed on me, like he’s mentally undressing me. He then leans down and gives me a peck on the mouth. “Thank you for wearing it,” he whispers. We keep quiet as we stare at each other, my heart already beating so damn hard. “I love it.”
Warmth surges through me at his presence, and the more I look at him, the wetter I become. It’s so painful not being able to move as I’d like, but I do my best to bring myself closer to him. Just inches from his chest, I run a hand inside his open collar, fondling his smooth skin. “Now that we are alone…” Letting my words trail off, I keep my eyes on him as my fingers go to his shirt and start unbuttoning it. Alex seems to revel in it as he keeps silent, watching my every move. Returning the smile, with contemplative eyes, he brushes some locks of hair out of my face, then leans over to plant another quick peck on my lips. But I want much more than that.
“Petra?” His tone is neither sensual, nor playful. It feels like the beginning of a painful conversation.
“Yes?” I reply apprehensively.
“Can I ask you something?” His voice sounds so heavy that my heart gives a little jump.
With my lips flattening, I mumble a quick, “Sure.” And I do my best to tame my growing nervousness.
His eyes remain pinned on me. They are tender but also curiously troubled. “Why did you lie to me?”
His question is enough to make my gaze drop to my lap and my body freeze in utter embarrassment. I know exactly what lie he is talking about. “I… um…” Still dazzled by his question, I tuck some hair behind my ear, thinking how this evening is not going as expected, but apart from that, nothing else comes to mind. “I don’t know,” I tell him sincerely. “It just felt right.”
“Right?” he repeats in confusion.
“I mean, that we were doing it naturally.” Oh jeez, I must sound so pathetic right now. I decide to look up at him, and as I do so, my cheeks must've turned a thousand shades of red. Searching for a better answer, I say, “I… I didn’t want to use a condom.” But it turns out to be just as bad as my first one.
“That doesn’t explain the fact that you lied about taking the pill.” Despite his soft and caring tone, he can be so pushy sometimes. As Alex sees me completely wordless, he adds, “Did you want to get pregnant?”
That question is like a reality check. Pressing my lips tightly together, I look down for a few seconds before mumbling, “Maybe.”
He lets out an exasperated breath, the one you make when you can barely believe what you just heard. After glancing around the room, his gaze lands again on me. Yet he takes a blatant moment to ask, “And did you think about me? Don’t I get a say in it?”
Rolling my eyes, I can’t help but chide, “Oh, relax. Would it have been so bad to have a child?”
He blinks twice, his jaw dropping at my statement. “I’d have wanted to be informed first, yeah. See, unplanned pregnancies are not really my thing.” He pauses, observing me. I’m not sure if he expects me to say something more or not, but I’ve got nothing else to add. “I… I can’t believe how careless and selfish you were.” Another rush of air, and this time, he runs a hand through his wild hair as he keeps ruminating. “You didn’t even think about it, did you?” But I remain mute, devoid of any will to speak. “I’m talking to you, Petra.”
