Lucky Strike (Super Harem #1) - Catherine Banks Page 0,52
even finish my statement because I totally believed it. The Genetics Director had to be behind this.
“We’ll figure it all out after we get back,” Vortex said.
“What’s the status of the others?” I asked.
“It sounds like most of the monsters are down already,” Tremor answered me from behind us.
I turned and held up my hand.
He obliged me, walking over to slap his hand against mine in a high-five.
“Nice toss,” I said.
He winked at me. “I’ll toss you anytime you want.”
Crystal Woman let out a bark of laughter and then patted him on the back. “She’s taken, trust me.”
Vortex held his hand out to me after brushing his pants off.
I let him help me up and then leaned my head against his chest. “Sorry if I scared you.”
“You definitely scared me. Seeing the monster’s head explode was awesome, but then seeing you turn around to shock those men and then falling to the ground afterwards was terrifying. I don’t know what we would have done without Alfred here,” he whispered against my hair and hugged me tightly.
“We all know CPR,” Crystal Woman reminded him.
“So, how long until our crew arrives?” I asked. “I’ve got a date.”
“A date?” Vortex asked, but there was no tension in his body.
“Crystal owes me drinks,” I said and smiled at her.
“Margarita pitchers,” she said. “Tonight, is definitely a margarita night.”
I nodded my agreement.
“I’ll buy nachos,” Tremor said and raised his hand, then with a blush, lowered it. “If I’m invited that is.”
Crystal beamed. “You’re definitely invited.”
The vibes from them were so evident that I didn’t even need Alura here to tell me. They were definitely going to be an item. I was going to see to it.
“So, how come I don’t see you in the common areas often?” I asked Tremor.
He shrugged. “I tend to stay in my room and play games.”
“Games? What kinds of games?” Crystal Woman asked, her eyes alight.
“I have RPGs and FPSs mainly,” he answered.
He was now talking French to me. I had no idea what those acronyms meant.
But Crystal Woman smiled wide. “Oh, you and I need to hang out. I bet we could have a great battle.”
“Battle?” I asked.
She nodded. “FPSs are ones where you shoot your opponent with a gun,” she explained. “I have been playing them since I was a kid. Not to brag, but I’m pretty good.”
“Pretty good isn’t good though,” Tremor teased and then clamped his lips closed like he hadn’t meant to let that comment out.
Crystal Woman turned and glared at him, but I could see there was no anger there. “Is that so? Well, we will have to try that out. I challenge you to a one V one.”
“What game?” he asked.
She shrugged and flipped her ponytail over her shoulder. “Your choice. I don’t care which one it is.”
His smile was electric on its own, and I could see it affect her as she fidgeted with her shirt.
“They said they won’t be able to get to us for at least an hour,” Vortex informed us as he walked back to where we stood.
I hadn’t even realized he’d walked away. Maybe I wasn’t as good as I thought.
“You look pale,” Crystal Woman whispered to me. “Are you okay?”
I sat down and scrubbed my face with my hands. “Yeah, sorry. I think being dead for a moment is still affecting me.”
“An hour?” Tremor asked. “That sucks.”
Vortex sat beside me, and I leaned my head on his shoulder.
I pulled my phone out and cringed as I inspected the fried electronic device.
“You really need to figure out a better place to keep that,” Crystal Woman chuckled.
I looked up where I assumed Alfred was. “Do you have a spot I could store my phone when we’re on missions?” I asked.
“Yes,” he replied.
My earpiece crackled a moment and then I heard T whisper, “What happened? Why isn’t your phone on?”
“Phone fried. A full status report will be available from the droid soon,” I whispered.
“Who are you talking to?” Crystal Woman asked.
“I see. I’ll contact you later,” he replied.
“You’re in trouble,” Vortex whispered before kissing my ear.
I scoffed. “I’m a hero. This is par for the course.”
“None of us have died before,” Vortex said.
I glared at him which just made him laugh and then he kissed me softly on the lips.
“Okay, you have got to stop that. That is too much. You’re too cute and I can’t stand it,” Crystal Woman said.
I stuck my tongue out at her and settled into the crook of his arm around my shoulders.
We all dozed
