Lucky Strike (Super Harem #1) - Catherine Banks Page 0,46

time as one of his upgrades,” T said.

I glared at the phone a moment. “You didn’t tell me about that upgrade.”

“I didn’t?” he asked, not sounding convincing at all.

“What other upgrades didn’t you tell me about?” I growled.

“The monsters are formidable this time. Much larger and more dangerous than the previous ones, plus there are several little ones. Stay safe or I swear I will steal you from the Association just so I can lecture you,” T growled through the phone.

I made a purring sound. “Sweet talker.”

Gargoyle made a coughing sound while Vortex chuckled. Hurricane turned around with a quirked brow, but I waved him off.

“Seriously, stay safe, okay? I’ll be collecting samples as I can, but I don’t know if I’ll be near you. I’ll try though, okay.”

“You can’t keep coming to the same sites I’m at. You’ll raise suspicion.”

“If it keeps you safe, I don’t care what they say. You’re all that matters, Lucky. Now, stay safe, you beautiful pain in my ass,” he growled and then hung up.

“So temperamental,” I grumbled. “You almost die like three times and suddenly the men around you start acting like it’s a common occurrence.”

“Three times in less than six months,” Gargoyle supplied.

I shrugged. “Whatever. Not like you guys haven’t been seriously injured before. You don’t hear me complaining or urging you to be careful.”

“That’s because we are always careful. You like to throw yourself into danger, especially if it is to save your friends or loved ones,” Alura said as she skipped up to us as we stopped at one of the elevators and waited for our turn.

I glared at her. “You’re a traitor.”

She gaped at me. “What? How am I a traitor?”

I glared. “You and I can discuss it later. For now, just know that you are in so much trouble.”

She stuck her bottom lip out in a pout. “But I love you, Lucy.”

“Mm-hm. I love you, too.”

We all climbed into the next elevator that had enough room for us, headed to the briefing room, and sat together.

Gargoyle set his hand on top of the hand rest with his palm open while talking to Alura about something.

Without hesitation, I set my hand in his and let him twine our fingers together.

As soon as we did that, I felt the hair on the nape of my neck stand to attention.

Who was it? Who was glaring at us?

It was likely some female hero looking at me with him and being jealous that I had his attention.

“Your aura is turning dark,” Alura whispered. “What’s up?”

“I feel like someone is glaring at me,” I whispered back. “It started as soon as Gargoyle and I held hands.”

She chuckled. “You do not want to know the number of women who are jealous of you being with him. Or the ones who also see the way Hurricane and Vortex look at you. Just know that there is no one who is angry...well, almost no one.” She closed her mouth, narrowed her eyes, and looked around the room. “Hm. Maybe I spoke too soon.”

“Who is it?” I asked.

She shook her head. “It might be something else. They could be having a bad day. I’ll look into it more later. For now, just don’t let it bother you. There are always jealous jerks and bitter people. Ignore them and focus on your happiness. You deserve it.”

Did I though?

The seats filled up quickly and then the screens in the center of the stadium turned on, showing the current Director in her beige pants suit.

“This code seven is unlike anything we have seen before. There is a code five monster and over a dozen code three monsters spread out around the city. We also have received notices of code three monsters in Kyand. We are going to dispatch most of you to the code five monster, to minimize damage to the city,” the Director explained.

That was a lot of monsters. Why were there so many all of a sudden? We had gone months without them showing up.

I didn’t think it was my parents, especially if Dad truly was dying. So, who was it?

“According to sources, Transistor has been spotted at the site with the code five monster. We aren’t sure if he released it or if it is a coincidence. Proceed with caution and if possible, bring Transistor in alive,” the Director said.

My hand clenched around Gargoyle’s.

She was trying to capture him. Why? What was she planning?

I couldn’t let her capture him, but I couldn’t be seen as opposing the Association
