Lucky Strike (Super Harem #1) - Catherine Banks Page 0,27
I whined.
Tyson sighed loudly. His footsteps moved closer, and then he looked down at me. “If I can fix you in time, I will return you for your interviews.”
“Promise?” Tears pricked the corners of my eyes as I looked up at him.
He wiped my eyes and smiled. “Promise.”
Chapter Fifteen
I dozed on and off while strapped to the table in Tyson’s lab. He worked for hours, only stopping to help me to the bathroom and back when I needed it. He gave me an antidote and waited anxiously; his eyes focused on my vital readings.
Well past midnight, I woke to find him slumped in a chair with his head on his arms atop my bed, right beside my hips.
“Tyson?” I whispered.
No response.
“Alfred?”
My little drone sped into the room. “Yes?”
“Can you get some of the robots here to help get him onto the bed with me? He’ll hurt his neck if he sleeps like that.”
Alfred hesitated.
“I’m going to lie beside him. You can strap us both down if it will make you feel better,” I added.
Alfred made a few beeping noises and then four large robots came in and carefully rearranged Tyson.
I lay down on my side beside him, draped my leg and arm across him, and then rested my head on his chest.
Tyson wrapped his arms around me and began to softly snore.
An alarm sounded and Tyson jerked up, but the strap holding us down prevented him from sitting fully upright.
I grunted as he squished me between him and the strap.
“What happened? How did I get here?” he asked.
“You fell asleep in the chair and it looked really uncomfortable, so I had your robots put you here with me.” My cheeks burned. “I’m sorry. I just thought you’d be more comfortable on the bed. I probably should have had them take you to your room, but I was worried you would be mad if they moved you out of here and—”
He laid back down and hugged me. “It’s fine. I appreciate your concern. I was just confused a moment.”
I just nodded.
“Release,” he said and the straps let us go. He stood, checked my vitals from the monitor, and smiled. “The antidote worked. How do you feel?”
Embarrassed. “Fine.”
“Do you still want to go back to work today? For the interviews?”
I nodded.
“I’m going to give Alfred some of the antidote then. And I’m going to have him scan your food and drinks.”
“Won’t Bart notice Alfred scanning my stuff?” I really didn’t need the Director of the Association finding out about my involvement with a villain.
Tyson held up a finger and walked out of the room. He returned with a folder of papers.
I eyed it, but didn’t accept them. “What is that?” Having worked in a legal office before, they’d drilled into us to never take papers from someone because it could count as being served even if we didn’t know what they were.
He set the folder on the end of my bed and pulled out several documents. “This is a receipt for the purchase of Alfred from my company. There is also a note stating that my company is sponsoring you, as a hero.”
“Sponsoring me?” I gaped, open-mouthed.
There were many heroes who had sponsors. Most were just to get the sponsor’s brand more on camera time. But Tyson’s company wouldn’t get that since Alfred would be invisible. Plus, I was a new hero.
“Yes. We are going to sponsor you. This will make it much easier for me to give you weapons and other protection.”
“Wait...you said ‘my’ company. Do you own a company?”
“I thought we already discussed that during our date the other night?” he asked as he restocked the papers and put them back in the folder.
“You didn’t say you owned it!”
He sighed and looked up at me. “Does it matter? Does it change anything between us?”
“No, but you should have told me the full truth. Are you withholding any other important things?”
He tilted his head back and clasped his hands in front of his body. “Let me think...”
I waited, trying to resist the urge to strangle him.
“I was married once, it only lasted one month and then we annulled it. She’s a villain now, but keeps to the other cities to avoid bumping into me. It’s been over for five years, but she’s crazy, so if she finds out we’re together, she might start trouble for you. Her non-villain name is Marilyn. I don’t want to give away her villain name. I have a very attractive secretary, but she’s gay and not
