Lucky Strike (Super Harem #1) - Catherine Banks

Chapter One

Having a death ray pointed at my head should have scared me. It would have scared most people.

Since this was the fifth time in six months that a death ray had been aimed in my direction, it had lost its wow factor.

“You might as well just let me go. He won’t come and save me this time,” I said to Transistor.

Transistor was one of the top super villains in the world. He was a genius, hated the government, and despised Cobalt, one of the top heroes who happened to also be my boyfriend. Transistor was short, muscular, and could control electronics with his mind. He had long, silky black hair and striking green eyes. Yes, the villain was sexy. Well, at least from what I could tell. I was fairly certain the mask he wore contorted his face a bit so you couldn’t tell his true identity. Not many villains, or heroes for that matter, wanted the public to know their everyday identities.

Transistor turned those green eyes on me. “What?”

I shifted in the chair to get more comfortable and wiggled my hands within the ropes. “He and I had a fight, and I’m pretty sure we broke up. I wouldn’t count on him saving me this time.”

Transistor’s cape billowed behind him as he walked away from the control panel to squat before me, out of range of my legs I noticed. Last time I had kicked his shin. “What happened?” he asked.

“You know that blonde he keeps saving from Cindershell?” I asked. Cindershell was another villain, though he wasn’t as smart as Transistor.

Transistor nodded. “Huge breasts that are almost always a breath from falling out of her dresses?”

I nodded and grit my teeth a moment as fury filled me again. “There’s a photo of them eating lunch together that’s been circulating in the newspapers. I confronted him, and he got defensive and told me I was acting crazy. All I did was ask if he was dating her, too. He yelled at me and told me if I couldn’t handle seeing him eating with people that we weren’t going to work. I explained I just wanted a yes or no answer but he wouldn’t give me one. So, I left.”

“Wow, that’s messed up. I’m sorry,” he whispered.

Having a villain apologize for a hero’s behavior was definitely new for me.

“You don’t need to apologize. You didn’t act like an ass when asked a simple question,” I mumbled.

“Heroes never know how good they have it. He’s lucky to have someone like you as a girlfriend,” he whispered and turned away.

“Are you trying to steal my girlfriend?” Cobalt asked as he walked into the cave we were in. He had huge muscles, bright blue eyes, and blonde hair. He was the definition of handsome, and girls flocked to him.

I scoffed. “Like you care. Why are you even here? Shouldn’t you be saving that girl from Cindershell?”

“I already did,” he said. “That’s why it took me so long to get here.”

My mouth dropped open. “You saved her first?”

“Wow, you are a jerk,” Transistor said as he flipped the switch to warm up the death ray.

“You know what, just leave. T, just put me out of my misery,” I said.

Cobalt rolled his eyes. “Why do you always have to be so dramatic?”

Transistor raced forward and attacked Cobalt. The two of them were pretty evenly matched when it came to fighting. Transistor usually lost because Cobalt got under his skin with his taunts and then Transistor lost his cool.

“You’re just mad because no woman will ever love you,” Cobalt said.

Transistor’s face contorted with rage, and he swung wildly.

Throwing myself backwards, I rolled and got free of the chair. My hands were still bound behind my back, but I didn’t care. I headed towards the cave’s entrance.

“Where are you going?” Cobalt called after me as he continued fighting.

“Wherever I want. It’s over, I’m done with you.” I snapped.

Both men stopped fighting to look at me.

“You’re breaking up with me?” Cobalt asked, his eyes wide.

“Yes. Transistor, he drops his right shoulder before he tries to use his secret uppercut technique. Have fun fighting.”

Irritated and sad, I walked to the nearest populated street and waited for a cab to pull over.

The driver looked at my hands. “Kidnapped?”

I nodded and gave him the address to my apartment. He cut my arms free so I could pull out cash from my pocket to pay him once out front of my apartment building.

My shoulders burned from being tied back so long. Couldn’t
