Logan (Chosen Champions #1) - Macy Blake Page 0,77

“Oops?”

“What did you do?” Bailey asked as he made his way through the warehouse to the stairs.

“Tried to make the bread under the broiler?”

Bailey growled. “Has no one ever taught you how to cook? Faster is not always better. Don’t touch anything else. I’m coming.”

Finding out the supernatural world existed was a big deal.

Finding out an alpha wolf wanted you to be his mate, also a big deal.

Realizing you were ready to have sex with your hopefully maybe going-to-be mate after being assaulted but weren’t sure how to make the first move…

Yep. Big deal.

Bailey sat at the kitchen table, tapping a spoon he’d been using to stir dough on the wooden surface in a comforting rhythm. The funny thing was, knowing all of the people surrounding him had superpowers had made it easier for Bailey to process everything that had happened to him. In a weird way, knowing he had a dragon to charcoal a bad guy to a crisp had helped him worry less about his safety and think more about what had happened outside the theater.

He’d been in daily sessions with the therapist, but she’d recommended they move to once a week. It would be a long time before he was healed from the attack, and he’d never forget it.

But he was also ready to get his life back.

Well, not the same life he’d had before. He was ready for a new one that included griffins and vampires and dragons and martial eagles and wolf shifters.

One wolf shifter in particular.

Logan had been so incredible over the past several weeks. He seemed to know what Bailey needed before Bailey did.

Space, he had it. Snuggles, he had those too. A shower alone or a shower with Logan sitting in the room because Bailey was too scared to be naked without someone there to protect him.

Logan hadn’t batted an eye at any of it. He still looked at Bailey with this amazing expression of stunned adoration that Bailey hoped never faded.

He loved it.

He was pretty sure he loved Logan.

Bailey put the spoon down and picked up his phone. Ashley answered on the first ring. “What does being in love feel like?”

The sonic boom of Ashley’s squeal echoed in Bailey’s brain. It also brought his pack running.

“What’s wrong?” Scout asked. His eyes glowed blue, and Bailey was pretty sure he had extra hair on his hands and eyebrows. Weird.

“Um. Ashley is excited.”

“Is that Scout?” Ashley asked.

“Yes.”

“Give him the phone.”

“Ash—” Bailey protested, but to the surprise of no one, she ignored him.

“Give it.”

“Fine.”

Bailey handed the phone over and dropped his head onto the table.

Of course, Scout’s reactions to whatever Ashley said didn’t help either.

“Oh,” Scout said softly. Then, “Ohhhh.”

Bailey groaned.

“You need me to go to the drugstore for you?”

Wait. What?

“Pfft,” Scout scoffed. “I have two sisters, and my Nana would skin me if I was embarrassed about stuff like this. It’s a natural bodily function and nothing to be ashamed of. What kind of man would I be if I made it seem like the women in my life should be ashamed of something that happens monthly?”

Bailey lifted his head.

“Okay, if you’re sure. Just tell Bailey if you need something.”

Scout handed the phone back to Bailey. “Here you go.”

Bailey took it as Scout dipped his fingers into the dough on the table. Bailey smacked him with the wooden spoon. Scout laughed and skipped out of the room, closing the door behind him.

“Did you just blame that noise on your period?”

“Yep.”

“You shouldn’t lie to your friends.”

“Not lying. Second-day cramps are a bitch. I’m curled up with a hot pad as we speak.”

“That sucks. Anything I can do?”

“Yes, distract me and tell me why you want to know what being in love feels like, because oh my God, this is the best thing you’ve ever said to me, and that’s including the time you said I sang ‘Defying Gravity’ as well as Idina Menzel. Which was a giant lie, but I needed to hear it, so it’s been my favorite Bailey moment to date. Until now.”

“That was your favorite Bailey moment? Really?”

“Well, that and when you started keeping protein bars and my favorite body spray in your backpack. That’s when I knew you were going to keep me.”

Bailey laughed and eyed his backpack. He still hauled it around everywhere, although he hadn’t had as much use for it since he’d left the theater. “I need to make some serious backpack choices. I have six more people to carry stuff around for now. It’s going to
