Logan (Chosen Champions #1) - Macy Blake Page 0,43
guy who constantly made sounds like Logan did. It was cute and endearing, if a tiny bit weird.
“It’s more like what he doesn’t do. Got a leaky window? Deal with it. AC not working, well, it’s not a hundred degrees outside, so it’s fine. Crap like that. And don’t say I should move. I know I should, but finding a place in my budget is an issue.”
“Which is why your landlord can be a jackass.”
“You got it. But honestly, all this has shaken me up, so putting in some security will hopefully help me sleep a little better. As much as I want to be in my own space, I don’t like waking up every time I hear a sound.”
Bailey set the cooler bags on the kitchen counter and looked out the window. It was the same window where he’d seen the shadowy figure earlier. Logan moved behind him and wrapped his arms around Bailey’s waist.
“Nothing will mess with you while I’m here.”
Bailey leaned back into his touch. “But you aren’t always here.”
Logan guided Bailey around to face him. “I need you safe. I don’t even understand why, but the thought of anything happening to you…”
Bailey ran his hands up Logan’s chest before tracing his fingers over the scruffy beard on Logan’s face. “You need to shave.”
“I look like a toddler without facial hair.”
Bailey gasped. “I didn’t mean shave it off. Just trim it back to the sexy scruff you had last weekend.”
“Are you trying to tell me my manscaping needs work?”
Bailey laughed. “Is that what manscaping is? Because I thought it referred to…” He glanced down and then back up. He tried to look flirty and wasn’t sure he succeeded. “At least that’s what I call it when I trim down there.”
Logan made another of his growling sounds and tugged Bailey against him. “I will be finding out about that soon. Very soon. But now I need to go deal with the security guy.”
Someone knocked on Bailey’s door, and he groaned his annoyance. “Now? They had to show up now. I had plans, Logan. Sexy plans.”
Logan grinned over his shoulder. “I’ll take you up on that in a few minutes.”
Since Bailey had zero clues when it came to security systems, he focused on something he did know instead. He took out a couple of freezer bags of his marinara sauce and put them in the fridge to defrost. Then he began working on a shopping list. He really had been thinking of doing a lasagna party, and he’d see if Logan would let him do it as a thank-you to his team for training with them. And for the security system. And for what they were hopefully going to be doing very soon.
Not that doing it wouldn’t be thanks enough.
And he really needed to stop thinking about those things because he was already getting hard, and he really didn’t need the security guy to see him with a boner.
Instead, he focused his energy on what Aleron had hinted earlier. He’d love the chance to fill up the break room at Logan’s… whatever it was. He kept thinking of it as a warehouse, but their business must have a name, right?
There wasn’t a sign over the door or anything, or Bailey would have noticed it. But he supposed a security-type company would be discreet, which made sense. The whole thing was odd, and it still bugged him that he didn’t have some basic answers. He should probably push Logan a little harder on it, especially before they had sex.
Then again, maybe not.
Bailey watched as Logan guided the security guy through his apartment. He continued adding to his dream shopping list, jotting down a bunch of ideas of things he could make for Logan and his team.
It would be a fun challenge for sure, and something he’d never had a chance to do. As long as they’d foot the bill for the groceries, he didn’t mind doing the cooking.
Logan forced the old windows open, discussing glass-shattering alarms and window-opening alarms and motion detectors and floodlights.
Bailey’s heart skipped a little, and as if Logan heard the sound, he turned and met Bailey’s gaze. Bailey smiled at him, confused by why he was so turned on by Logan taking charge and making sure he was safe.
It was such a strange sensation. Bailey’d never had tons of anxiety issues, but he’d been in a couple of somewhat dicey situations over the years. His first experience at a gay club came to mind. Of course,
