windmill as she tries not to fall backward, but it’s too late.

Lucky for her, I have quick reflexes.

I snatch her around the waist with my arm and swing her from the steps to the ground, keeping my hand on the dip of her hips. The soft wool of the peacoat rubs against my fingers, and her hands clutch onto the lapels of my jacket.

Here I am, finding myself in the same predicament as earlier. Her chest is heaving, her lips are a bright red from the cold, and her eyes… those fucking eyes are lilac dreams. When I fall asleep at night, I know that’s all I’ll see.

But the plan I have in my head doesn’t fit with what is happening. Our first kiss isn’t supposed to happen like this. I bend down and press a kiss just to the side of her mouth, and her lips come next to my ear. An audible shaky breath tickles a hot spot right on the side of my neck and goosebumps arise.

It’s winter outside.

But the heat of a thousand summers is brewing between us.

Against my better judgement, I set her on her feet, and if I’m not mistaken, she seems disappointed.

I am too.

I have a method to my madness, I swear. I want to kiss her, but I want to feel when the right time will be. This isn’t like kissing a cut slut. This is different. This kiss matters. It’s important. The first kiss tells all, and I want her to think ‘I want him to be my last kiss.’

I want to be the first.

The last.

And the everything in between.

So yeah, the perfect time matters because she matters to me.

I slip our hands together, and we start to head down the sidewalk that loops around the skating rink.

“Do you want a hot chocolate?” I point to the vendor just ahead to the right. It’s a small cart hooked to a truck.

“Lava Chocolate?” she reads the name of the business stamped across the side of the truck and trailer.

“Yeah. It’s cold out, and it will warm us up. It’ll taste good too.”

“Okay, well, I’m getting the biggest size there is.”

I hurry ahead of her and stuff my hands in my coat pockets, turn around, and walk backwards so I can see her. “You like things big, Violet?” I grin.

She blushes and looks away from me. Her curly hair bounces with every step she takes.

“Kansas…” she turns coy, trying her best not to laugh, but I see the glint in her eyes, the way her teeth nibble on her bottom lip as she thinks of those… big things.

I’m doing research. This entire conversation is for selfish reasons.

“Listen, I just need to know how much money I’ll be needing to dish out on every date. If you want a supersize drink every time we go out, that’s expensive. So I just need to know if big things… are your thing, Springs.”

If I’m not mistaken, there’s a swing to her hips as she struts toward me. She’s determined to see my joke through. “The more, the merrier, in my opinion,” she says in an even, strong tone.

“Is that right?” We stop at Lava Chocolate and wait in line. There are a few people ahead of us, a couple snuggling against each other and a kid around ten wearing one of those fur hats with a raccoon tail.

Good for him.

“Yep,” she says as-a-matter-of-factly.

“What if you can’t finish it?” I clear my throat when an image of her lowering herself on my cock flashes in my mind. She’s trying her best to take it all, but she can’t. She doesn’t stop trying though. She lowers herself until she is at the hilt, stretched out and full.

“I always finish my big drinks, Kansas.”

She says that just as I take a step and the kid grabs his drink. He turns around, but I’m too busy staring at Violet, dumbfounded like a big fucking idiot. I run right into him, his hot chocolate falling to the ground. When it hits, the lid pops off, and steaming hot chocolate spills all over my boots.

“Hey, watch where you’re going, pal!” the ten-year-old sasses me. “Look what you made me do. You owe me another drink, asshat.”

Where the hell did this kid learn to speak like that?

Violet snickers, and I have no choice but to get my wallet out. “Here.” I give him twenty bucks. “Scram. It was an accident.”

“Forty and I won’t cause a scene.”

“Take what you have before I give you
