the ground.
A pitiful excuse for a man who’d thought himself so very powerful.
“Jennifer?” Orion grasped her by the upper arm. “We need to go. Now.”
“But what about—”
“The cops are almost here.”
“Oh. Oh!”
There were a number of reasons it wouldn’t go well for her if the police were to arrest her. Namely, her part in the coin theft, having a gun, firing it in public, illegal entry into the country. The list went on. The only thing she was truly guilty of herself was the firing the gun and assault, but her conscience was clear considering the men in question.
Orion grabbed her hand and pulled her back down the street. She held up her hand, trying to hide her face, but it was probably too late for that.
Ahead of them, a van idled at the intersection with the side door open.
Jennifer leapt into the van with Orion right behind her.
“Go!” Ivy bellowed.
Lumen cranked the wheel, executing a tight turn,, and they sped the wrong way down the side street.
“Oh my God, you’re absolutely nuts, you know that?” Ivy leaned over the bench seat and grabbed Jennifer by the shoulders. “Don’t you ever do that again.”
The adrenaline quickly faded and Jennifer slumped in the seat. She was suddenly cold, but she didn’t care.
She looked at each person in turn, still just as shocked to see them today as she had been yesterday.
Ivy grinned at her. “For the record, everyone else is super angry they couldn’t get here as fast as Lumen. With a little bit more time, the whole crew would have been here. Hell, I think every person remotely connected to AG would be here.”
Jennifer glanced at Orion.
It was nice knowing so many people cared about, but there were only a few that mattered to her. The girls. And Orion.
“Thank you guys,” she whispered.
Orion’s hand found hers on the seat and he squeezed it. He was still there, still fighting to be with her.
She wanted to be done with fighting. For a little while at least. She wanted to hold on to this man and...do whatever came next. Maybe Ivy had pointers?
“Thank you guys so much,” she said.
“I don’t know what you’re thanking us for,” Orion drawled. “I was pretty useless. I mean, you did all the hard work.”
She sputtered a laugh.
That was a lie, and she loved him for it.
She loved him for a million little reasons she’d never realized until it was all almost wiped away. But most of all, she loved him.
Jennifer reached for him, sliding her hand along his cheek. It took very little urging to bring him to her. Ivy whooped far too loud for the small space as Orion kissed Jennifer.
“Oh my God,” Lumen whined. “Get a fucking room.”
Jennifer was fairly certain she already had one at Lux. With Orion.
“I think that’s a very good idea,” he said.
She couldn’t agree more.
TUESDAY. LUXE IBIZA Hostel, Cala Gració, Ibiza.
Jennifer walked the width of the pool. She resolutely ignored the constant twinge in her left knee.
Adrenaline had given her feet wings yesterday. And a whole lot of strength she hadn’t really had at the time. She’d held on to that anger, letting it fuel her while they took a ferry that got them into France. But that was as far as she’d held out. The pain had become unbearable.
Thanks to Ivy and Piers connections, Jennifer had been seen by a doctor who hadn’t asked too many questions. He hadn’t batted an eyelash when she’d explained she’d been hogtied and left in a box for twelve or so hours.
The short story was that she had pinched and damaged nerves from being contorted and left for so long. Even doing her best to roll over hadn’t been able to stop it from happening. Now all she could do was give herself time to heal and gentle rehabilitation.
“Look at you go,” Lumen called out.
Jennifer grimaced and turned to walk back to the other side.
“Yeah, yeah,” she grumbled. She took in Lumen’s shorts and barely concealed bikini top under a loose tank top. “Where are you headed?”
“Orion said his best friend or something had a really cool boat. My flight isn’t until tonight and I thought I’d get out of your hair for a little while.” Lumen took a few steps closer to the pool.
Jennifer could feel her face heating. “Have fun.”
“Hey, um, Jennifer?”
“Hm?”
“I just wanted to say sorry about the crap I gave you about Orion. He’s a really good guy. And he really cares about you. I’m sorry I was
