office building and he walks hurriedly towards me.

“Glad I caught you. I feel like we need to talk,” he says. He has probably noticed the look on my face. Utter defeat. “Are you okay?”

“I wish people would stop asking me that question. I’m fine!” I snap at him. In fact, I don’t want to stay here and talk, so I start walking away. I’m headed straight for the parking lot. I want to go home.

“Blaire, wait, come on, we should talk.”

“Talk about what?”

“You know exactly what. There’s no need to play dumb.”

I stop in my tracks and Calvin does too. He draws in a deep breath. He looks exhausted.

“Tell me something, Calvin; that first day when you came to my office with an offer, did you know exactly who I was?”

He is searching my eyes for the answer, and that is answer enough. He can’t lie to me; I see right through him.

I start walking again, and he follows me.

“Okay, I’m sorry, yes, I knew. It was just…”

“A joke,” I say firmly. We’re in the parking lot now. I’m making way to my car, and Calvin is trying to keep up.

“I didn’t know things would turn into this. It was just a little lighthearted fun. We wanted to see the expression on your face when you realized who was buying your company. But the deal was legitimate. The contract is profitable and advantageous to you. We never tried to cheat you of anything,” Calvin continues while I try my best to ignore him.

I beep the car open and pull the door. He stands back now, watching me get in.

“I’m sure you realize why I don’t want to have anything to do with you nor your best friend. You both are manipulative and power-hungry. You deserve what you get. And you don’t deserve me.”

I slam the car door, and as I clutch the steering wheel, I can feel myself fuming. Like I am on fire.

Calvin steps back, out of my path, and I zoom out of the parking space. I can see him in my rearview mirror. He’s looking at my car, watching me go. I hope he goes back to Trevor and tells him exactly what I said. Exactly what happened. I should have known Calvin was in on this. I thought I was a good judge of character, but apparently, I’m not.

I want Trevor to know that I don’t care if he’s fucking his assistant now. I’m done with him.

There’s a whole legal team here to see me. Apparently, Erica had no idea they were even going to show up. Blaire’s new legal team. Kirk Silvers is a financial whiz whose work I am acquainted with in my business circles, but I’ve never met him personally. I have no idea what he is doing in my office building and why he’s demanding to see me.

“You will have to go and speak to him yourself, Mr. Davenport; they are refusing to leave the building until they have spoken to you,” Erica informs me.

What the actual fuck?

“Cancel my next appointment,” I growl at her as I walk out of my office.

I see Kirk there, standing at the head of a group of two women and two men whom I have never seen before. I can only presume that they are the legal team.

“Kirk Silvers,” he charges at me with his hand outstretched.

“Trevor Davenport.” We shake hands while we study each other up and down. “How can I help you?”

“Well, why don’t we go into your office and speak where we can have some privacy.”

I throw a look around at some of my staff who have noticed the sudden scene. I clench my jaw and turn to go to my office. He follows. How is he connected to Blaire? Why has she hired a new legal team?

The door barely shuts behind us before Kirk turns to me.

“Look, Mr. Davenport, I’m not going to beat around the bush here. As you can guess, Blaire wanted my help in hiring her a new legal team and I have done exactly that.”

“Why does she need a new legal team?”

“She wants out.”

“She wants out?” I growl, and Kirk shrugs.

“She wants us to find a way by which she can work around the legal jargon in the contract. She doesn’t want you to be her boss anymore, and she definitely doesn’t want to work in this building.”

“The terms of the contract are quite clear, Mr. Silvers.”

“Yes, they are, and she agreed to them, but since then, the
