The Hitman's Guide to Tying the Knot Without Getting Shot - Alice Winters Page 0,118

him in and talk to him some more, but I can’t imagine they have much more to say. They know that if it weren’t for you guys, it’s not likely they’d have figured out who was behind it,” Henry says.

“I’m just glad it’s over with,” I say.

“Me too. I almost had to stick Jackson in a bubble for eternity in the top of the highest tower guarded by one thousand Dobermans,” Leland says.

Henry just gives me a look of pity.

Thirty-Three

Leland

Out of all of the things that I thought would happen in my life, standing here in a tux with the plan of getting married isn’t one of them. And marrying Jackson, out of all people. Someone so kind and caring, and oh my god I feel weird. I feel strange. Is this normal? What is this feeling?

I tear open the door to the little cottage that’s on the grounds of the facility. It’s been turned into a place for people to get ready and for the catering crew. As I leap out, I slam into Henry.

I grab the front of his jacket and pull him back into the room with me. “Henry, I’m dying.”

Henry doesn’t even look concerned! “Why are you dying?”

“I feel weird and nervous. What if Jackson realizes I’m strange?”

“If Jackson hasn’t already realized you’re strange by now then he’s never going to,” Henry assures me as he grabs my shoulders and gives me a shake. “Now pretend it’s just you and him out there. It’s a small group. Think of how much you love harassing him.”

“I do love harassing him,” I realize.

“Then all you have to do is walk on out there and proclaim you’re going to harass him for the rest of your life.”

I smile at Henry because he knows and understands me. “It’s that simple?”

“Why wouldn’t it be? Don’t you love him?”

“More than anything.”

He pats my shoulder. “You’ve shown time and time again that you’d tear the world apart for him and risk it all. I think you need to give yourself more credit than you do.”

“I would do anything for him. I didn’t know I could love someone this much.”

Henry drops his hand. “Then what could you possibly be worried about? You now get to tell everyone he’s your husband. And you get to share the fence story for the thousandth time.”

“Jackson loves the fence story.”

“Does he?” Henry asks, sounding oddly skeptical.

“Of course.”

“They’re waiting for you. Are you ready?”

“Does Jackson look sexy?” I ask as I glance down at my own tux. It’s a teal blue jacket that fits me snugly on top of a black vest and bow tie. Ella assured us she’d make sure everything matched since I forbade Jackson from seeing me.

“Jackson looks very nice,” Henry assures me.

“I knew he would. He looks sexy in everything and nothing. Have you ever seen him in nothing? It’s a sight to behold. I bet once you saw it, you’d never look at your wife again.”

The look on Henry’s face is a bit confusing, but I’m sure he’s just jealous.

“Are we good?” Cassel asks as he walks into the room.

“Wait!” I say. “I forgot the stuff I’m supposed to carry. Something old, something new, something gun-shaped, and something blue, right? Henry, you’ll be my something old.”

Henry glares at me. “You’re not a blushing bride, now get out there.”

“You’re now acting a bit blue too since I called you old, so I’ve killed two birds with one stone.”

Henry makes a grumbling noise at me that tells me he loves my logic.

“Cassel, give me your gun.”

Cassel folds his arms over his chest. “I can already see you’re wearing a gun. Your jacket is tight enough I can see the outline,” he says.

“Yeah, but it’s not enough.”

“I don’t have one.”

“You do too!” I say as I manhandle him until I pull the gun free and cuddle it. It instantly calms me down.

Cassel sighs but helps me put it in a place where it’s not extremely apparent. “There, you look good.”

I grab their wrists and pull them toward me. “You two are my closest friends besides Jackson. I hate being sentimental, so this is the only time you’re ever getting this, but thank you guys for being a part of my life. I feel like I have a family when you guys are with me.”

Cassel hugs me and even Henry gets the sentimental bug and joins in. “Even if your bizarre methods have been questionable from the beginning, I’m glad to have you in my life, Leland,” Henry
