His Runaway Mate (Unexpected Mates #4) - Brea Alepou Page 0,26

a second. “Of course.”

She nodded her head before letting his cheeks go. “I don’t want him to leave again.”

Indigo’s chest felt tight. He placed another kiss on her forehead. “Me either, princess.”

“Can Loggy be a part of our family like Ava has Ken Ken and Morgy?”

And wasn’t that the question of the hour? Indigo wasn’t sure how to answer that, at least not without the man in question sitting there next to him, helping him out.

“If Daddy was to mate with Logan, would you be okay with that?” Indigo asked.

Gabriella knew mating was like a marriage. It was impossible to hide that fact, especially with three mated couples in the pride. Gabriella gave him a puzzled look.

“I thought you and Loggy were mated already.”

God, he wished. “No, princess, not yet.”

Yet being the key word. Indigo needed to get his shit together.

Gabriella huffed out a breath, staring up at her ceiling. “Daddy, do you love Loggy?”

Indigo nearly swallowed his tongue. His five year old was throwing him for a loop. What happened to a bedtime story before bed, instead of an interrogation?

“I do,” Indigo confessed, unable to deny it. “But it’s complicated. Logan and I have to talk about a few things first.”

Gabriella nodded as if she understood and reached out for the picture of her mother that stayed on her nightstand. Indigo grabbed it and brought it to her, and she placed a kiss on it. “Night, Mommy.” She handed the picture to Indigo, and he kissed the picture of his late wife. “Night.” He placed it back on the nightstand before standing and turning off the light, the fairy night-light giving the room a soft glow.

Indigo walked out of the room and changed into his pajama pants before making his way back upstairs and to his mate. He opened the door and sucked in a harsh breath at the sight before him. Logan stood there, no shirt on and pajama pants riding low on his hips.

Logan glanced over his shoulder, and his eyes were like molten lava as he took all of Indigo in. They stood there, the air in the room thick.

“I was picking off the little glitter I found,” Logan said.

Indigo nodded, finally breaking the moment as he moved to the bed and pulled the covers back.

“We are going to be glittery for a while. Not even fire can get rid of glitter,” Indigo said.

Logan sighed. “You sound like you have experience with it.”

Logan joined him in bed, and Indigo instantly pulled his mate to him and wrapped his arms around him. His warm skin pressed up against his own. He nuzzled the back of Logan’s head and closed his eyes as he took in his mate’s fresh scent.

They were silent for a bit, like every night. Indigo couldn’t get the talk with Gabriella out of his head.

“What are you thinking about?” Logan asked, breaking the silence.

Indigo contemplated keeping his thoughts to himself, but if he continued his silence, would he ever have his mate how he truly wanted? He thought just having Logan in his arms was enough, but he didn’t think he could do that either. He wanted Logan completely. He wanted a mate to bond with him.

“About how much I want to bond with you.” Indigo tightened his arms around Logan as he went stiff in his arms.

“You—” Logan shook his head and started to pull away, but Indigo couldn’t let him go.

He let out a whimper, he didn’t mean to, but the thought of Logan walking away hurt too badly. Logan went still. He was still stiff but no longer pulling away from him.

“We can’t,” Logan finally uttered. But it didn’t sound like he believed it. Nonetheless, the words were still painful to hear.

“I’m not saying right this second. Although I wouldn’t be opposed to it.” Indigo nuzzled the back of Logan’s neck. “All I know is that I want to be with you in every way.” The three words that he wanted to utter were at the tip of his tongue, and he barely held them back, knowing it would have been too much for his mate to hear, even if Indigo’s panther growled in annoyance.

“I will just run away, that way neither of us has to suffer any longer,” Logan said.

The words sounded forced and filled with so much pain. Indigo pressed a kiss to the back of Logan’s head as he squeezed his mate tighter to his chest. What was the right thing to say here? Should he say they
