His Runaway Mate (Unexpected Mates #4) - Brea Alepou Page 0,14

he?” Indigo asked, no longer wanting to sit back. He might have been blowing it out of proportion, or he might not. His heart was thudding rapidly in his chest as worry and anxiety took hold.

“He might be at his apartment,” Kash said.

Indigo was up and ready to go find his mate. Ready to drag him back to the pride house and make sure he was okay. I can’t do this. That little voice in the back of his head reminded him Logan might not want that. His panther, on the other hand, was all for them tracking their mate down and never letting him go again.

“What’s the matter?” Dezi asked. He carried Ramsey in his arms, rocking the baby soundly.

Kash was up and walking over to him, placing a kiss on his cheek before placing one on Ramsey’s forehead.

Indigo wanted that, but with Logan. Holding Logan in his arms and giving him the love he deserved, while Gabriella snuggled close to them, and if they had more children, then so be it.

His mind was cruel, letting him imagine what he most desired but didn’t have.

“Rainar is still asleep, but this one was determined to wake his brother up from his nap early. What were you three talking about?” Dezi asked, pulling Indigo from his daydream. One day it wouldn’t be a simple dream but reality—at least he hoped.

“Logan,” Dillan said, showing Dezi the same text.

“Call him,” Dezi said.

Indigo would much rather go see his mate, but calling him might work as well.

Dillan hit Logan’s name and then the call button. His big blue eyes glanced over to Indigo, and he hit the speaker button. The phone rang and rang, and each ring made the dread settle even more in his stomach. It didn’t feel right, and just when he was about to demand they give him Logan’s address, there was a distinctive click and then a rustling sound.

“Hello,” Logan croaked.

His voice sounded as if he’d just woken up. Indigo looked to the top of the phone, and sure enough, it was three in the afternoon. Logan could have been taking a nap, but with the amount of coffee he consumed during the day, Indigo didn’t think that was possible.

Dillan’s black cat ears popped up on top of his head. Maybe he was getting the same uncertain feeling Indigo got.

“Hey, Logan, I—um, are you okay?” Dillan asked.

There was silence, and Indigo waited with bated breath. It felt as if everyone in the living room was. Even Gabriella and Ava had quieted down.

“Yeah, I’m okay,” Logan said.

Indigo clenched his fist and bit the inside of his cheek to keep himself from speaking. The sound of his mate’s voice called to him, but more than that, he didn’t think Logan was okay. Dillan’s ears flattened.

“I can have Rhy drop me and Samantha over with cookies Kash made. I made sure to save you some,” Dillan said.

There was more silence, and if it were any other person on the line, including Indigo, he would have thought they were thinking about it, but it was Logan, and Indigo knew for a fact his mate loved cookies and rarely, if ever, turned one down.

“It’s your favorite. Double chocolate chip,” Dillan said.

He glanced up at Indigo, his blue eyes full of worry. It didn’t help calm Indigo whatsoever, only cemented the bad feeling he was having.

“That sounds nice,” Logan said. He sounded so tired. There was more rustling. “But maybe another day. I—”

They all waited for Logan to keep speaking, and for a second Indigo thought the call had dropped, but it was clear as day on the screen the call was still connected. The coppery tang of blood filled his mouth, he was biting the inside of his cheek so hard.

“Logan,” Dezi said. His alpha power rolled through the pride link. Dillan shivered, and so did Kash. Indigo shook off the feeling as he glanced at Dezi, but his alpha quickly turned back to the phone at the muttered “fuck” that crackled through the speaker.

“Yes, Alpha?” Logan asked.

Dezi didn’t exert his title over the pride often; it’s why it made Bliss Pride feel more like a family. He preferred them all use his name, but there was no mistaking that Dezi was in fact the alpha of their pride and they all answered to him.

“Are you being honest—are you okay? Do we need to come and get you?” Dezi asked.

The concern in his deep voice was very much real, and Indigo appreciated it. Even if
