His Human (The New Neighbors #2) - M.A. Innes Page 0,52

“I guess Maverick makes you think about a lot of things.”

I looked up at Master. “How about you walk around the park for a minute while I rest here?”

Maverick’s gaze shifted back and forth between us. “You wish for privacy?”

Nolan giggled as I nodded. “Yes, Master. Thank you.”

I wasn’t sure how good his hearing was, but I was hoping it would help Nolan open up. Something about the way he’d always watched Maverick made me think that he had questions.

As Maverick walked off, Nolan turned to me. “I think that means I get to ask nosy questions without being rude?”

I grinned. “Go for it. I think after dinner the other night we’re on pretty close terms.”

Nolan blushed, but he didn’t back down. “He really is your Master…your Dom?”

I nodded. “That’s easy and not nosy. Yes, I’ve known I was a sub for ages and Maverick is my Dom. I’m his first sub, but they’re kind of natural control freaks, so it’s worked out great.”

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Maverick fluff up at being labeled a control freak, but I couldn’t tell if that was a good thing or not.

“How did you guys meet?” Nolan’s expression said he was expecting something weird, so I chuckled.

“The grocery store.” I spent a minute telling him about the first time we’d met and then Maverick’s unique way of catching my attention.

“That’s…” Nolan shook his head, still grinning. “It seems like a one in a million kind of meeting.”

“I don’t think so.” I shrugged. “Think about how many people we walk past in a day. For most people, that’s a ridiculous amount. For us, it’s not that special, though, because we don’t know anything about them. Well, they have the ability to read us a lot better, chemicals and body changes and stuff.”

Nolan blushed, making me giggle and nod. “Oh yeah, you too, buddy.”

But that wasn’t my point, so I kept going instead of teasing him. “So he could tell that I was interested from the very beginning. In his mind, all the other stuff I was thinking and feeling created mixed signals, so he didn’t approach me at first.”

“Like what?” Nolan looked over at Maverick where he seemed to be randomly pacing off the park like he was measuring it.

“That seems like ages ago, but I think I was worried about making him nervous because I didn’t want to make him uncomfortable by flirting and a ton of random things like that. In my experience randomly perving on guys in the cereal aisle has never worked out very well, so I was nervous.”

Nolan giggled. “Yeah, and they’re all so big.”

“Oh yeah.” My response was closer to an orgasm than agreement, which had Nolan blushing again. “But they’re also all sweet and, from what I’ve seen, don’t have the same issues with gay or straight that we do.”

He looked confused, so I decided to potentially overshare bit. “We’d probably describe them as asexual Doms that aren’t sex averse. Most of them love the idea of being Doms because it works different in their society and there aren’t many subs.”

It was a bit oversimplified, but I thought it was a fairly accurate description.

“To me, they all seem to be different types of caretaker Doms and they have no boundaries at all.” Nolan looked skeptical, so I scoffed. “I have to set boundaries about what he can help me with in the bathroom, dude. He’d stand there and hold it for me if I let him and wouldn’t think it was weird at all.”

Nolan blushed a delightful magenta color and didn’t seem to be breathing. Maverick turned to watch us, so I knew he’d figured that part out as well. Giving Nolan a poke to restart the important systems like breathing, I smiled. “Oversharing?”

He coughed several times, then shook his head. “No, that makes some of the stuff Maverick has said make more sense.”

I laughed. “Yeah, we haven’t exactly been on our best behavior.”

I was trying to decide if I needed to apologize for all the shenanigans we’d gotten up to in the restaurant when Nolan spoke. “No, I was serious the other night when I said you didn’t need to apologize or anything. You guys have given me a lot to think about.”

That seemed like the best opening I was going to get. “Is there anything you want to talk about? I know you didn’t call, but we live around the corner, and I just couldn’t walk past without saying anything… you
