His Human (The New Neighbors #2) - M.A. Innes Page 0,36
a clear enough head to remember to turn it back on to get help.
He’d been watching too many saved from death at the last minute type of shows lately.
Turning off the volume seemed to be a good compromise, but shit was going to hit the fan if I ever got into an accident.
Obsessively obeying every road sign and rule, I made it home in one piece. Maverick was waiting outside and I could see him worrying before I got out of the car. Before I could ask him what was wrong, he wrapped me in his limbs. “You have arrived five minutes before your scheduled arrival time.”
Worrywart.
“I hit all the lights green and working a few minutes later tonight had the roads less crowded.” I kissed his cheek as I leaned into him. “I was very good, Master.”
If I was going to be punished for something, it wouldn’t be for running a red light or something stupid like that.
Tentacles stroked over me gently like he was testing to make sure I was safe.
“There were several accidents today. You must be vigilant.”
Okay, that explained the extra worry today.
“I will.” Kissing his cheek again, I inched away so I could walk inside on my own.
Some of my neighbors were a bit nosy and didn’t need to see my Master carrying me inside. Maverick hadn’t really understood that rule, but I’d put my foot down, and he’d eventually accepted that there were certain situations where I had to appear self-sufficient.
He thought our social conventions were weird, but he was getting used to shrugging and accepting that sometimes it was just a human thing.
As we headed inside, he gathered me up in his limbs as soon as the door was closed and locked. “How was your day, my little human?”
I was wrapped up in his tentacles like a toddler who was being hugged by their parent, but I loved the way he cuddled me close. “I had a great day. Busy, but I got a lot done. How was your day?”
He squeezed me tighter in a hug that seemed to cover most of my body in one go. “My day was also productive. I successfully navigated the city without incident, and on my lunch break, I had a meeting with the auto manufacturer I am contracting with.”
I had to smile. Only Maverick could go from talking about driving his taxi to making what were probably life-saving changes to a car in one sentence and make them both sound equally as impressive. “That’s great.”
Wiggling against him, I tried to hint at what else he could do to make the day highly productive, but he ignored it.
He had more pressing matters to attend to.
“I have been looking into human needs. I have been neglecting you.” The frustration in his voice made it clear that whatever he thought he’d done was going to take precedence over my desire for an orgasm.
“I don’t feel neglected, Master.” I kissed him gently, but that didn’t seem to help.
What could he think he wasn’t doing?
He was tracking my diet and my orgasms and just my general level of happiness…what had he missed?
“You require exercise, my little human.” He said it like his oversight should’ve been obvious.
Lord, I was back to being his rabbit.
How did he want to exercise his rabbit?
“I have worked walks into our schedule three times a week. That should help satisfy some of your physical needs.”
I was pretty sure I was getting enough exercise from all the orgasms to satisfy any physical needs, but Master seemed set on the idea.
Kissing his cheek, I silently sighed to myself as my orgasm was shoved a few hours down the road. “I would love to go on a walk with you, Master.”
If he wanted to walk, we’d walk.
I was starting to think I’d go anywhere with him.
Chapter 12
Trip
I’d barely made it through the door the next day before he wrapped me in his limbs and started carrying me through the house. “We have approximately one hour before we need to leave for the restaurant. Would you like to shower before we go?”
Maverick’s tentacles slowly inched over me. “You do not smell offensive, but I accept the human convention of additional bathing before new activities commence.”
He was so funny.
“Yes, Master. A shower sounds great.” I might not stink, but it sounded good. It was a nice restaurant, so I wanted to look the part.
And the fact that showers were now so much more fun with Maverick around had nothing to do with
