His Human (The New Neighbors #2) - M.A. Innes Page 0,23
Maverick made a curious sound, causing me to look up. “My friend wants to make sure our date went well.”
That might have been an understatement, but telling him that Cameron wanted to make sure I hadn’t been completely taken over by my new alien Dom didn’t seem helpful.
I kissed his cheek again. “I need to call him back before we go to bed.”
I resisted the urge to ask him if that was okay because no matter what, I needed to make the call, but it was difficult. Maverick nodded and shifted to get more comfortable on the bed. “I understand.”
Clearly, privacy for phone calls wasn’t something he considered a necessity for humans. But considering all the weird conversations we had in public these days, I could understand the confusion…and really, I didn’t need the privacy since I was hoping Cameron and George could help me out with a little problem.
Well, not too little.
Climbing up on the bed beside him, I curled into Maverick, encouraging his tentacles to wrap around me. When I was settled, I dialed Cameron. He answered in two rings. “You can’t just drop off the face of the earth.”
I laughed. “Um, do we need to talk about the number of times you went AWOL when you met George?”
I could feel Maverick stiffen, and I had a feeling he didn’t understand the term. I looked up at him and whispered, “It’s a military term but civilians use it when discussing someone just randomly disappearing for a while.”
“He’s still there.” Cameron’s voice was probably louder than he realized because Maverick snorted.
Still chuckling, I teased back. “Yes, Captain Obvious. I’m sitting on his lap.”
Cameron laughed. “Was it your choice or did he just decide that’s where you belonged?”
“This time it was my choice.” When Cameron laughed, I grinned. “I might owe you an apology on that whole standing up for yourself thing.”
He was laughing so hard I heard George ask him if he was all right in the background. Their hearing had to be phenomenal because Maverick stiffened at George’s voice.
When Cameron finally stopped laughing, I spoke again. “This is primarily just a call to tell you that yes, my date went well, and yes, I’m still alive. But…there is one thing I need.”
Cameron must have heard something in my voice because he started to laugh again. “What did you do?”
I scoffed. “Nothing, I just need you to tell Maverick that we don’t break easily and he can give me another orgasm tonight without injuring me.”
Yep, more laughter came through the phone. I just waited patiently while Maverick stared at the phone in confusion. When Cameron could finally breathe, he tried to talk. “Has he…lightning…yet?”
“No.” I might have sounded slightly indignant because he was having a hard time controlling his laughter.
“Okay, let me breathe for a sec.” He was having entirely too much fun, but I was patient. “Okay, yeah, do you want me to put George on?”
Maverick decided to answer that. He took the phone as I called out my agreement. “Yes, that would be appreciated, human Cameron.”
Now Cameron and I were both giggling.
But as George got on the phone, I quieted. I didn’t want anything to get in the way of another orgasm. Fingers crossed George’s answer didn’t surprise me—because sometimes I just didn’t know what would come out of his mouth.
Chapter 8
Trip
The first thirty seconds or so were nerve-racking.
None of it was in English. The tone sounded pleasant, but that was all I got from it. Maverick didn’t seem to believe in hiding anything or censoring his thoughts, so I knew it wasn’t to keep anything from me. That didn’t make the waiting any easier, though.
When they finally switched to English, Maverick was talking about me, so I was pretty sure they’d changed languages as soon as I was brought up. Which was nice, I had to give him that. But the overall topic of the conversation was a bit disconcerting.
“Yes, he has already had one orgasm and seems to be fine, but they are so fragile. Trip has indicated a desire for additional intimacy and pleasure, but their bodies are—” Maverick paused and I could hear George’s voice in the background. “Really?”
Maverick’s expression made it seem like he was surprised but pleased with George’s answer. Unfortunately, that didn’t help me figure out what George had said. I could only hear the tone of his voice and the occasional word.
“That information is relieving.” Maverick paused, listening to George again. “And what about their fear-based responses? Is that
