would make it even more special for Ava. Kenny left Dezi to fuss over Kash as he got ready to leave. He made his way farther into the house and found Ava in the living room. Morgan, Dillan, and Cole were getting their asses kicked in some new racing video game. Ava was currently the reigning champ in the house, and it didn’t seem anyone was going to beat her anytime soon.
Samantha was in her baby swing, quietly enjoying the mobile going in circles. Gabriella was in her own little world; she was surrounded by every stuffed animal known to man. There was more and more baby and toddler stuff lying around the house, and as they all had additional children, there would be even more.
Morgan turned, and the moment their eyes met, he was all smiles. Getting up from his position in front of the TV, he made his way over to Kenny. His small protruding belly was growing, stretching Morgan’s T-shirt. Kenny placed his hand over Morgan’s stomach before they kissed as if they hadn’t seen each other in forever when it had only been an hour.
“What’s that?” Morgan asked, noticing the envelope.
Kenny cleared his throat. “Ava.”
She put her controller down and made her way over to them. He handed the envelope over to her, and she stared at it, noticing the courthouse address in the corner. She tore it open, and the paper fell to the floor. She let out a squeal of joy and jumped into Kenny’s arms.
“It’s official.”
Morgan let out his own squeal that rivaled Ava’s, and they both jumped up and down. Dillan and Cole joined them as they all looked at the paperwork with awe.
“You know I didn’t need a piece of paper to feel as if you two were my parents,” Ava said.
“We feel the same, but it’s still nice to have,” Kenny said.
“Does this mean we will be having cake?” Dillan asked.
“I want cake,” Gabriella shouted as she came to see what all the excitement was about. Cole picked her up. “I want a hug too.”
They each hugged Gabriella, and she laughed and ended up back in Cole’s arms once she made them go another round of hugs.
“Kash already left for the store,” Dezi said, making his way into the living with both twins in his arms.
“Can we frame it?” Ava asked, holding the adoption certificate.
“Yeah, I’ll have it done in the next day or so,” Kenny answered.
Ava hugged him again with a wide smile on her face. “Today is the best day. The certificate came, and we get to find out if I’m getting a little brother or sister.” She squealed in excitement.
“Oh, wait, what time is it?” Morgan asked.
He pulled out his phone.
“Logan said to come by at one so we can do the ultrasound,” Morgan said.
It was already twenty minutes after one, so they hurriedly made their way over to the infirmary. Kenny knocked, but Ava was already entering the room in her fit of excitement. Something crashed and Logan turned his back to them. His clothes looked disheveled and his hair ruffled. There was a distinct smell in the air that was full of sexual desire.
“Oh, sorry, Uncle Logan. We are so late,” Ava said, none the wiser to what was happening.
But Morgan glanced at Kenny, and he shook his head. He spotted a tattooed arm hiding behind one of the cabinets but refrained from pointing out Indigo. They had to know that in a house full of shifters that scents were impossible to hide, but if they both wanted to pretend that whatever was happening wasn’t happening, then fine, as long as Logan was okay with it.
Logan turned toward them finally. His shirt was off by a button, and he tried to finger comb his hair, but the longer pieces at the top just kept sticking up. Morgan stifled a laugh.
“Um, since we were late, we can come back,” Morgan suggested.
“Aww,” Ava complained.
Logan cleared his throat. “That’s okay. I wasn’t doing anything anyways.”
Right.
Morgan was instructed to unbutton the top of his pants and pull his shirt up. He sat on a smaller bed propped up. Logan clicked the keys a few times before he turned the screen toward them. He grabbed a clear bottle with blue gel and squirted some on Morgan’s stomach.
Morgan sucked in a breath through his clenched teeth. “I can’t seem to get used to the freezing cold gel.”
“Sorry, it’ll warm up,” Logan said as he smeared it around.
Logan turned on the sound, and there was a staticky sound, but under it there were two heartbeats, one a lot slower than the other. Kenny was easily able to pick out the baby’s from Morgan’s.
“Oh, good, the baby is in the perfect position this time. I was afraid it would be turned away from us again.”
They all waited with bated breath to hear if they would be having a boy or a girl. Logan clicked the keys a few more times and moved the wand around, smearing the gel around more. He finally went still and enlarged the screen a little.
“Congratulations. It’s a boy,” Logan said.
A boy. Ava started dancing, and Morgan wiped the gel off his belly before buttoning his pants back up.
“Now you guys get to pick names,” Logan said.
“We have one. Can I go tell everyone that I’m getting a little brother?” Ava asked.
Kenny nodded, and Ava rushed out of the room. Logan started cleaning up, and Kenny helped Morgan off the bed.
“Are you coming to the feast tonight?” Morgan asked.
“Feast?” Logan asked.
“Ava’s adoption paperwork came in the mail today,” Kenny said.
“Oh, that’s amazing. Of course I’ll be there,” Logan said.
Kenny looked over to where Indigo was hiding. “You’re coming too, Indigo.”
Logan sighed as Indigo came out from behind the cabinet. “Yes, beta.”
Morgan stifled a laugh as he tugged Kenny along. Ava had already told everyone in the living room. Dezi grinned at him, and a round of congratulations came from everyone in the room. Excitement seemed to pour out of Morgan.
“Soon Asher will be joining our family,” Morgan announced.
Kenny kissed the top of Morgan’s head. They were surrounded by family, none of blood but of choice, and to Kenny that made the best kind of bond.
