His Apprehensive Mate - Brea Alepou Page 0,71
it’s okay with you,” Kash said.
“We know what having your mate around and not being able to have them does to a shifter. I’m not asking you to be with him or mate with him—it isn’t my place—but Logan, I won’t put you in danger. I am your alpha, and my first responsibility is to this pride,” Dezi said.
Logan stood there. No words were said, and no one seemed in a rush to push him to answer. He finally looked up at them. There was a tired look to his eyes, but more than that, there was a sense of sadness.
“If I asked you to say no—”
“Then there would be no further discussion. But Logan—”
Logan shook his head. “I understand. He is a shifter asking for a home and a place to be welcomed. You gave that to me, and it wouldn’t be fair of me to deny another the same.”
“Are you sure?” Dezi asked.
Logan squared his shoulders and stared both alphas in the eyes.
“Yes, I am sure.”
“What about being so close to him?” Kash asked worriedly.
Logan sighed. “I am stronger than I look, believe it or not, but this isn’t our first time meeting.”
There were questions, and Kenny had some of his own, but Logan looked far from ready to answer them.
“Okay, but the moment you or Indigo start to lose control, I will—”
“I will leave. You shouldn’t be forced to put out a man and his child.” Logan bared his throat in submission and walked out of the room.
“What just happened?” Dezi asked.
“Hope,” Kash answered.
Kenny looked to Kash, and he smiled at him.
“We will just have to see what happens.”
“Kenny, go ahead and let Indigo know he is free to stay, and he doesn’t have to move out. In fact, he and Gabriella might as well pick one of the rooms downstairs,” Dezi said.
“We better get a nap in before the twins wake up,” Kash said. He yawned and Dezi easily swept him off his feet. Kash didn’t even argue, he just laid his head down on Dezi’s shoulder.
“Let us know if there is anything else that’s needed, Kenny,” Kash said.
Kenny bared his throat to them both as they left the office. He followed suit in search of their soon-to-be newest member.
“What are you doing?” Kenny asked Morgan. He found his mate awkwardly sitting in a chair, one leg hanging off the side and his back bent slightly over the other side. It looked far from comfortable.
“I’m not sure. Ava said she needed a model.”
“Hey, you’re distracting my model,” Ava said.
“My apologies.” Kenny made his way over behind Ava to check out how far she’d gotten.
“You know, art class isn’t something you can really study for. It’s an elective,” Kenny mentioned.
Ava sighed. “Yes, but I still want a good grade in it.”
Kenny looked at the painting and then to Morgan. Art was subjective; he had no idea what Ava was going for, but he would still hang it up for her once it was complete.
“Well, do you mind if I take your model out on a date?”
Ava was quick to put the paintbrush down. “I have a math packet to get through anyway. Art can wait for another day.” She was up and out of the kitchen in a blink of an eye.
“Date?” Morgan asked, rearranging himself in a more comfortable position. He cracked his neck as he stared at Kenny expectantly. Kenny smiled at him because he had plans for them and couldn’t wait to treat his mate.
“Yes.” Kenny moved in on his mate, boxing Morgan in with both arms on either side of the chair as he leaned forward. Kenny breathed in the scent of his mate, licking his lips in anticipation. “I want to spoil you as much as possible.”
Morgan chewed on his bottom lip, drawing Kenny’s eyes to his succulent lips. He caved under the desire to kiss his mate. He licked along Morgan’s bottom lip before nipping at it.
When he pulled back, Morgan was breathless and looked far from ready to go on a date. Kenny stood up, putting a little distance between them because the way Morgan was looking at him, Kenny was going to give in and take his mate to bed instead.
“Do I get to know where we are going on this date?” Morgan asked.
Kenny shrugged. “Do you want to know?”
Morgan opened his mouth before audibly shutting it. “I’ll let you surprise me.”
“I already packed our bags. We’ll be gone all day and night.”
“What about Ava?”
Kenny lifted a brow. “She’s
