His Apprehensive Mate - Brea Alepou Page 0,49
her. They stayed in the room for a bit longer before they made their exit. Ava still needed to eat.
Ava seemed lost in thought as they made their way to the kitchen, where she sat down at the table and started to pick at her breakfast. Kenny smiled when he saw that people had already ate and left. Gabriella was currently talking Logan’s ear off, but he seemed content. Indigo, on the other hand, stood near the kitchen entrance staring at Logan and Gabriella with an intensity that spoke volumes.
“Did you both see Ramsey and Rainar?” Morgan asked.
Ava nodded, her earlier excitement gone.
“Ava, are you okay?”
It seemed Kenny wasn’t the only one to pick up on her mood. She looked up at them and tried for a fake smile, but it fell flat.
“I think my stomach hurts. Is it okay if I just go to my room?”
Morgan looked to Kenny. She’d been fine earlier that morning, even just a few minutes ago while holding Rainar.
“Sure. If you want, Logan can look you over, or we can take you to the doctor,” Kenny offered.
Ava stood, shaking her head. “No, I don’t think it’s that bad.”
She scooted from the table and took her plate over to the sink, putting her omelet in a Tupperware container and storing it in the fridge before leaving the kitchen.
“Do you think she’s all right? Maybe a doctor’s appointment would be good,” Morgan said worriedly.
“She isn’t a full shifter yet, so she is prone to human sickness right now,” Kenny pointed out.
“Okay, a doctor appointment, but what doctor?”
“We did a job for a pediatric doctor once, found his long-lost brother. I’m sure if I give him a call he’ll know what to do,” Kenny said.
Morgan sighed. “Okay.”
They both worried about Ava. Kenny hoped it was nothing serious.
“We’re going to start a strategy meeting in a little bit,” Kenny said.
“I want to be there for it,” Morgan insisted.
Kenny kissed him on the forehead. “Okay.”
They lounged for a little longer on the couch, until Dezi came out of the infirmary. Kenny stood up and Morgan followed suit, and they made their way outside to the patio.
“The members from the Blaze Pack are on their way. It seems the alpha of the Vast Pack sent a few goons, and things got a little rough when Yovan offered no information.”
“What happened to her steering them toward the clearing?” Hodge asked.
“They didn’t bite,” Dezi said grimly.
Everyone around the table looked irritated.
“She did say he wasn’t stupid.”
“He’s a dictator and torturer, but no he’s not stupid. There is a reason he’s gone unchallenged for so long. He’s been alpha since I was a kid,” Morgan offered.
He was met with grim faces all around. Morgan glanced at the doors to the house. As everyone started to throw out suggestions, Morgan got Kenny’s attention.
“I’m going to go check on Ava, see if she’s feeling better.”
Kenny nodded and Morgan went into the house. It’d been a few hours; maybe her stomach was feeling better and she’d like to come eat. Morgan knocked on the door and waited, but nothing happened. Morgan knocked again and then again. Finally, he got so worried he just opened the door. He would apologize after he made sure Ava was okay. He made his way into the room but didn’t find Ava. The bathroom door was open and unoccupied. On the bed lay a note of some sort.
Morgan grabbed the piece of paper, his hands shaking so badly that he had to put the paper on a flat surface in order to read it.
Dear Uncle Morgan,
I want to say so much to you. Mostly I’m sorry. I know it’s not enough to wipe away what my parents or what the pack did to you. I know you just want to save me, and I thank you for that. These past few weeks have been the happiest days for me in a long time, but do I deserve it? I want you to be happy. Kenny is a really great mate, and I wish you two happiness, but there will never be happiness if I’m around. I’m going to try and convince my parents to forget about you, that way you don’t have to fight, you don’t have to get hurt, and no one will be in danger.
You two were more like parents to me than my own. I wished I’d been born different, been born a full wolf. No, that probably wouldn’t matter. I wished I’d been born to the two
