His Apprehensive Mate - Brea Alepou Page 0,38

said.

She was starting to get the hang of it. Once she understood the formula, Ava tended to be able to get most of the math questions done. It still surprised Kenny she’d only been studying for a few days and already she was understanding the basics of algebra one.

Kenny wrapped his arms around Morgan and pulled him to his chest. Morgan was practically vibrating with energy.

“I’ve never felt so close to my wolf before.”

Kenny couldn’t imagine not having his snow leopard right there. It was a part of him in every way.

“Would you like to shift?”

Morgan shook his head before the question was fully out of Kenny’s mouth. “Not yet. I usually only do it when I need to.”

Kenny kissed Morgan’s forehead. “Now’s as good a chance as any.”

Morgan bit down on his lip.

“Being a part of the pride should give you a little more energy to shift, making the transaction happen a lot smoother,” Dezi said.

Morgan nodded. “Then, um, can we go for a run?”

Kenny was more than happy to stretch out his snow leopard.

“I’ll watch Ava. There has to be a dad joke she can’t guess,” Dezi joked.

Morgan chuckled.

Kenny sighed. “Don’t torture my kid.”.

Morgan sucked in a breath. Kenny had just claimed Ava as his

Dezi smirked at Kenny knowingly, but Kash didn’t let the moment linger. He pushed Dezi along. “You two have fun. I was pretty good at math, so if Ava has any questions, I’ll help her.”

“Thank you, Kash,” Morgan said.

Was it okay that he referred to Ava as his? She felt like it; he would protect her as one of his own. Kenny knew better than most blood didn’t make a family.

“Are you sure you don’t want a big feast?” Kenny asked Morgan once they were outside.

Morgan shook his head, already stripping out of his clothes. Kenny watched him all of a few seconds before he got undressed as well. He folded his clothes and was about to reach for Morgan’s only to see Morgan had already done it.

Kenny caught the beautiful smile on Morgan’s face and froze in place. He was the luckiest man ever. He really did need to thank Rhy for bringing Morgan around.

“Ready?” Morgan asked with excitement.

Kenny hated that the pack Morgan had been in had treated him so wrongly and denied the most key part of being a pack—helping each other out. So what if Morgan needed a little more strength from the pride; it was why shifters banded together.

Kenny pulled Morgan to him and kissed his mate before he could say anything.

“Think you can beat me to the water?”

The autumn breeze was cold against their skin, but Kenny ignored it in favor of the warmth that was Morgan pressed up against him. Morgan smiled up at him.

“If I get a ten-second head start.”

Kenny laughed. “Fine.”

He reluctantly let Morgan go, and his mate sauntered closer to the line of trees. Kenny watched him take every step. Kenny felt the anxiety that came from Morgan once he started to shift.

Kenny wasn’t sure how the bond worked fully, but he made sure to stay calm and tried thinking reassuring thoughts. Morgan bent over; bones broke, and the cracking sound echoed around them as they reshaped. Brown and grey pushed through his skin and grew along his body. Morgan let out a whimper, and Kenny sat down a few feet away. Shifters were vulnerable during a shift, and touching them was a sure way to have things go bad.

“Piglet, you feel that connection in the back of your head?” Kenny asked.

It felt like an eternity, but was only a minute or two, before Morgan was fully shifted. He shook out his fur and barked at Kenny.

“Your ten seconds starts now,” Kenny said.

Morgan huffed at him before he took off. Kenny let the shift come over him. His bones broke, and his mind shifted. He went from being a man to a snow leopard in a short few seconds. He stretched out on the cool grass. Autumn leaves crunched under his paws.

He counted to ten and dashed to the tree line. He picked up Morgan’s scent instantly, but even without it, Kenny could easily find his mate. The bond that connected them forever was like a string that was tied to the both of them, and as long as Kenny followed it, he would find Morgan at the end of it.

Kenny found Morgan near the small pond. He crouched down, thinking he would sneak up on Morgan. He was spotted before that could happen.
