Her Hidden Falls Bodyguard Billionaire Cowboy - Taylor Hart Page 0,4
act happy for her friend. Of course she knew what it was. Star had experienced something similar right after the honeymoon, and though they didn’t speak of it much, she knew that Madison and Kent were trying for it too.
“I’m pregnant.” Jewel beamed at them.
Charlotte let out a squeal and rushed to her, throwing her arms around her. Star followed, then Madison, and finally Angela.
Angela hugged Jewel tightly. It’d been such a privilege to get to know Jewel over the past year. “I’m so happy for you.” Emotion scraped the back of her throat. She was happy for her friend, but the thought of having a baby …
“Thanks, you guys,” Jewel said, sitting and taking another bite of the cinnamon roll. “It felt like it was taking forever.” She paused and turned to Madison, reaching out and taking her hand. “And I know you guys are trying, too.”
Madison waved her hand through the air and put on a brave face. “It’s fine. Kane says we’ll go to another country and pick up four or five babies in those orphanages if I don’t get pregnant soon.”
Despite Madison’s blasé attitude, Angela could sense the sadness in her heart. It was another thing that had seemed to come with taking on the energy healer role—which was weird, because Angela had never been in tune with her own feelings.
“It’ll happen,” Jewel said, pulling her in for another hug.
For a few minutes, the women gushed about Jewel and what baby doctor she would be going to, and then they took turns checking with how Star was feeling.
“Almost six months along now, and Beau is so cute. He talks to the baby every day. He puts his head down by my tummy and sings to him or her.” She winked at them.
“When are you going to tell Beau it’s a boy?” Charlotte asked.
Star’s grin widened. “He can find out when the baby comes out.”
They all shared a laugh at that. Star was good at tormenting her husband.
Yearning. Was that the right word? Angela was actually yearning for something like that. It was so strange. She never thought about yearning for her own husband, their own child.
Sean’s face flashed into her mind. Internally, she steeled herself and dismissed it.
As if sensing what she was thinking about, Charlotte turned her gaze on Angela. She dabbed at her lips with the napkin. “So again, what is the scoop with the other Hardman brother?”
“Who is that you’re speaking of?” Angela asked innocently.
Charlotte’s eyes narrowed. “Don’t play dumb with me. I see how Sean stops by a million times a day and brings dinner a lot.”
Angela wished she could deny everything Charlotte was insinuating, but it was true. The man was relentless. Plus, he had kissed her last night. She would not tell her friends about that. “I’ve told you already. What you have …” She pointed to all of them in turn. “Love? It’s not in the stars for me. Not in the cards. Not in …” She paused and looked at Charlotte. “Nothing. Nada. I’m a lone wolf, a mystery.”
“That’s for sure,” Star muttered.
It had been a long process to win Star over when Angela had first moved to town. Not just because of the type of shop she had, but because Star was a true small-town Southern girl who was suspicious of strangers.
Angela had sold them all long ago on how her parents had died when she was small. According to her story, she’d lived in New York and come to Hidden Falls to get out of the city. She never spoke of her history or background. Especially not her brother.
She was careful. Heaven knew that all she had to do was ask one of them something small about Hidden Falls and they would immediately ramble on and on for hours about the place, the people. It wasn’t hard to remain neutral once she’d been accepted by Charlotte and Star, and she was grateful for that.
Not to mention Madison and Jewel. They were strangers to Hidden Falls, too, but being married to the Hardman men had given them instant acceptance into the community. Star would never complain about that, because she’d grown to care for them as well. They all came in for coffee and cinnamon rolls a couple times a week. It was cozy. Homey. Wait, that wasn’t the right word.
“I daresay the man has quite the crush on you.” Star nodded. “He told Beau his goal was to have a legit date.”
This line of talk had
