Her Hidden Falls Bodyguard Billionaire Cowboy - Taylor Hart Page 0,30
baby?” With a hum, she leaned into him and lightly kissed his lips.
Confusion and hyper attraction warred within Sean, leaving him dizzy. He shook his head. Hold it together. “Uh, yeah.” He sloppily put his arm around her and pulled her into him. Unable to stop himself, he planted a kiss on her in return. Maybe not the soft kiss he should have given her, but it was the kiss he’d been wanting to give her.
She giggled and pushed him back. “You’re silly.”
Somehow, Sean managed to mask his disappointment. This was just an act, one that he’d been stupid to believe. He smiled at the security guy. “Sorry. We’ll grab the car and head back.”
The older gentleman laughed and looked between them. He gave them a wave of dismissal. “Ah, I remember what it was like to be a young couple in love.”
Not missing a beat, Zoey leaned into Sean. “Yep, that’s us.”
Maybe this was a farce, but Sean could still feel the heat where his skin touched hers. He snaked an arm around her waist, kissing her neck. “We just love each other, you know.”
The older man’s smile grew. He wagged a finger at them. “Have fun, kids. Just no more reckless driving.”
As the man drove away, Sean racked his brain for what he should do next.
Zoey met his gaze, then looked at his lips. “I do trust you.”
Her words surprised him. “Good.”
“Do you really want to trust me?”
A trick question, he thought. He nodded.
“You shouldn’t.” She put her hands on his face and gently kissed him.
Unable to resist, he kissed her back, pulling her against him. This woman was like a drug. Their lips moved frantically against each other’s. It felt like she was so far away, unimaginably far away. As he crushed her against his chest, he felt her hands roaming his bare chest and then combing through his hair.
Dang, this woman. How many times had he wanted her to kiss him like this? How many times over the past year had he yearned for this moment?
She deepened the kiss, and he responded in kind, letting his own hands roam up her back and into her hair, loving the silkiness of it. Loving the way every part of her felt perfect against him, like they’d always belonged together.
But this wasn’t how it should be. Sean grasped at the lucid thought, and he pushed her back. “We can’t do this. This …” He raked a hand through his hair. “This is my job, Zoey.”
A guilty look crossed her face, making Sean think of a kid who’d snuck into the movie theater. “You’re right.”
So many emotions washed through him. This woman was all he’d wanted for so long, and now he had to push her away. “Okay, then.”
She laughed, but it wasn’t a happy one—more like the laugh of someone losing their mind. As she cackled, she put her hand over her stomach and bent forward with hysteria. “That’s funny.”
He laughed, too, though this laugh was more genuine. He could see the irony in their situation.
After a bit, her laughter died out. She let out a long sigh, then began moving to the car. “I guess we’ll go back, then.”
“Uh, yeah.” His head was still spinning, but at least he had her cooperation now.
Chapter 15
Zoey opened the refrigerator and scanned the food that had been stocked by the FBI. She and Sean hadn’t spoken since they’d gotten back, but her mind was still churning over the messy incident that had led to her making out with him. Undoubtedly, he was preoccupied with the same thing.
She shut the fridge and put her hand over her face. What had she done?
“I thought we’d go to a restaurant,” he said from behind her, jerking her back to now.
She startled. But why was she surprised? She doubted he’d let her out of his sight anytime soon. For the first time since she’d come on this whole thing, she was finally hungry. “Okay.”
Sean gave her a sweeping look, and suddenly, she felt self-conscious. She was wearing exercise pants and a T-shirt, and her hair was still wet. It was a stark contrast to his dark jeans, nice shirt, and jacket.
“I’ll change,” she said quickly, rushing back to her room.
Half an hour later, they were seated at the restaurant in the main part of the resort. Candlelight flickered between them, casting shadows on the table.
“If I didn’t mention it, you look stunning.” Sean sipped a glass of water and propped up a menu.
“Thank you.” She
