Up for Heir - Stella Starling Page 0,106

for his prince’s hands, a move that was supposed to come a bit later in the ceremony but that suddenly felt as necessary as breathing, because while all the elaborate pageantry and royal pomp were grand and gorgeous and completely unforgettable, those parts were for Rosavia. But this part? The part where they stood in front of each other and their loved ones and any and all higher powers to give voice to the promises that their hearts had already made to each other?

This part was sacred, and no matter how many people were watching, it was and always would be reserved for the two of them.

“I love you, Leopold van Rosavia,” Edvin whispered, which was also not in the script, but needed to be said because it was true.

Leo beamed down at him, squeezing his hands, and as the officiant finally began leading them through the traditional, flowery opening lines of the royal wedding ceremony that Edvin had all but memorized during the rehearsals, Leo’s fingers moved against Edvin’s palm, spelling out letter by letter—in the basic sign language that all the princes were fluent in and that Edvin and his siblings had picked up over the last year, too—words that would always mean more to Edvin than any ceremonial ones.

I l-o-v-e y-o-u, t-o-o, d-a-r-l-i-n-g.

I a-l-w-a-y-s w-i-l-l.

E-d-v-i-n B-l-o-m, y-o-u a-r-e m-y h-e-a-r-t.

And the well-rehearsed vows that followed, the exchange of rings engraved with the promise of their love, the sweetly chaste kiss once they were pronounced husbands and the far less chaste one that immediately followed, all were heartfelt and would remain etched into Edvin’s heart until the day he died. But the magic… the magic was as simple as that. Words he would say back to his prince, every single day, until death did they part.

I love you.

And I always will.

You are, and forever will be, my heart.

Up for Heir (#1)

by Stella Starling

A playboy heir needs: a man to marry, right now.

After spending half his life dodging his duty to the crown, the rebel heir to the Rosavian throne has been told in no uncertain terms that it’s time to settle down. Prince Leopold has one month and a vetted list of suitable princesses, and he will announce his engagement during Rosavia’s Royal Ball. But Leo’s got his own ideas about what really suits him…

Royal Librarian Edvin Blom is good at not attracting attention. Shy and self-conscious of his stutter, he’s used to being overlooked and more than happy to stay in the background. At least, until the Crown Prince with a wild reputation shows up at the library’s new opening and decides to flirt with Edvin’s sister…

Edvin isn’t at all what Leo thought he wanted, but turns out to be everything he can’t stay away from. Edvin’s been burned by falling for someone out of his league before, though. And believing that Leo has really fallen for him? While Edvin’s drowning in his own doubts and insecurities, that might prove impossible… unless love gives them both a reason to come up for air.
