car, Vi tensed at my side. It was obvious that something was bothering her. Confirming that, she turned to look up at me and said, “About my mother… She’s not like other moms.”

“Whose is?” I asked flippantly, thinking of my own uptight mother––who only cared about appearances and what the ladies at her hoity-toity country club thought.

Vi anxiously bit her lip as she drove us just outside of town to her mother’s place, but I wasn’t sure how to set her mind at ease.

When we arrived at the rundown mobile home, I was amazed by the sheer number of lawn ornaments and windchimes. It was a clear case of overkill, but it still managed to have its own unique charm.

“Ready?” I asked, when Vi remained motionless in the car.

“As ready as I’ll ever be.” She tried to drum up a smile, but it only lifted the outer edges of her lips.

When Vi rapped on her mother’s front door and the woman swung it wide open to greet us, I started to understand why Vi had been nervous and I began to wonder if this visit might be much more entertaining than I had originally thought.

Her mother was standing before us wearing nothing but a wide, friendly smile.

My hopes that my mother’s nudist phase had passed were immediately dashed when she opened the door. She looked thrilled by the sight of us and pulled me in for a hug, despite the fact that I was rearing back from being smashed against her naked body.

“Violet, you’re home!” She beamed a smile at me as I wondered how her deep voice could sound as smooth as silk, while mine just emerged sounding raspy.

“Mother,” I said stiffly.

Ignoring my awkwardness, she turned to drink in Oliver from top to bottom and back up again. Openly flirting, she cooed, “Oh my, aren’t you a handsome devil? If I was a couple of years younger…”

As she leaned in to give him a naked embrace, I held a palm up to her and said, “Nope.”

She looked affronted as she blinked at me, obviously not understanding why I wouldn’t want her to hug my male companion while she wasn’t wearing a stitch of clothing.

“Go put on some clothes. Now.” My firm tone left no room for objection as I smoothly slid into the role of parent to my parent.

She fluttered away, giving us a full-view of her firm backside. Watching her leave, I made a mental note that it would be smart for me to start practicing a regular yoga regimen.

I had to give Oliver props for attempting to act normal––despite my crazy mother. He had to be stunned by the outlandish woman, but he made no sign of it as he ushered me up the steps to her home, saying, “After you.”

Even though every instinct I had said to run in the other direction, I forced myself to enter her home. It was such a mess that we had to move items aside to make room to sit on the sofa. Oliver probably thought it was because we hadn’t given her any notice about our visit, but I knew she wouldn’t have tidied up anyway. She was too carefree to be bothered with such trivial pursuits as cleaning her house.

When she breezed back out to the living room, she had donned a short, silky floral gown that was nearly see-through, and she clearly didn’t have anything on underneath. Not wanting to start our visit by chastising her again, I gave her a brittle smile, introduced Oliver, and asked how she was doing.

“I’m absolutely flawless,” she answered in a completely serious tone.

I forced myself to refrain from rolling my eyes at her over-the-top answer, and I tried to ignore the fact that she didn’t bother to ask about me.

“Can I get you some tea or something to eat, Oliver?” she asked, sounding almost normal.

I mentally kicked myself for not warning him not to eat or drink anything here. Her all-natural diet was big on nutrition and horrific on taste buds.

Oliver answered politely. “We ate lunch in town, but I would love some tea, if it’s not a bother.”

I tried to bug my eyes out as a warning in his direction, but it was too late. She was already flitting into the kitchen to brew some tea. “No trouble at all. In fact, I was getting ready to brew myself a pot anyway. Would you like a cuppa, darling?”

“No, thanks,” I said quickly.

“Knew that was coming, didn’t we?” she said
