my shit.

“It’s okay, baby,” Rabbit whispered, pulling me against him again. “I’m here.”

“I thought you were hurt.”

“I know, honey. But I’m good.”

“Why does this Taxi person want you? Specifically? And what’s going to happen to Jette? She’s not safe.”

“She’s safe,” he stressed.

He was repeating a lot of the same things he’d said when we were in Doc’s office, but it wasn’t sinking in yet.

“A lot of people know who she is!”

“Baby, she’s covered. I swear to god.”

“You need to wear a necklace like mine.”

He rolled his eyes. “Not wearin’ a fuckin’ necklace, Parker. You need to quit spiralin’.”

“Stop telling me to stop spiraling! You were taken!” I screeched. “Hooded, drugged, and fucking taken from me. Practically before my eyes, and I couldn’t do anything about it. It’s like the explosion all over again.”

I suddenly couldn’t breathe.

“Fuck,” Rabbit hissed. “Baby, slow your breaths. I need you not to hyperventilate.”

I sobbed into his chest. “I can’t lose you. I won’t survive it.”

He lifted me in his arms and sat in the chair by the window, pulling me close. “You’re not going to lose me.”

“I didn’t know where you were for four hours, Zane. Four hours of terror,” I sobbed. “Even Alamo and Doom were freaked, and you know they have steel trapped emotions.”

“Okay, baby, it’s okay. I got you.”

“You’re gonna wear a fuckin’ bell,” I growled.

“We’ll figure something out, Pebbles. Whatever you want, okay? As long as it’s not a necklace.”

“I’m gonna fucking put a chip in your neck.”

I heard him sigh. “That might be a little extreme.”

“I don’t care.” I burrowed into his neck. “I can’t ever lose you.”

“You won’t,” he whispered. “I promise.”

“Cock ring.”

Rabbit snorted. “You want to put a tracker in a cock ring and keep me hard at all times?”

“Oh, is that what a cock ring’s for? I get to know where you are and the bonus of your cock always at the ready for me?” I asked. “I’m in.”

“You feelin’ a little better?”

I nodded, kissing his pulse. “Yes, but don’t let me go yet.”

“Wouldn’t dream of it.” Rabbit gave me a squeeze, then asked me, “You feel like gettin’ somethin’ to eat?”

“Tequila.”

“We can definitely get tequila.”

I nodded. “Okay. But first, you have to tell me what’s happening tomorrow.”

“That’s not gonna happen, baby. And please don’t fight me on that. I’ve already told you more than I should and I’m gonna hear about it tomorrow when I’m alone.”

I sat up with a gasp. “What do you mean you’re gonna hear about it tomorrow?”

“I shouldn’t have pulled you into that meeting with Doc.”

I pushed off his lap and crossed my arms. “Like hell you shouldn’t have.”

Rabbit leaned forward, settling his elbows to his thighs. “All of that was club business, not to mention, super secret government business, and Taxi was insistent that only Doc would know what was happening. You were not part of that deal.”

“There’s no way Doc would expect you to keep that from me.”

“You don’t think?”

“He tells Olivia what’s going on.”

“Not all of it, but he’s prez and she’s his old lady. She’s been around for a long time. I’m a soldier, essentially, a nobody.”

I threw my hands in the air. “You’re not a nobody.”

“Baby, I am. It’s not a bad thing,” he said. “I’m a member, but I’m not an officer, so I’m low on the totem pole. I’m fine with that. I still need to pay my dues.” He rose to his feet and wrapped his arms around me. “I tell you more than I should. I’ll own that, because you’re my best friend, but you need to keep this emotional shit locked down. Lose it with me. Lose it with Jazz and Willow, but never lose it in front of their men, and don’t ever repeat what I tell you to anyone. I don’t know what Alamo and Dash tell your besties, honey. You need to keep that between us.”

“So, I can’t say anything about Taxi?”

He raised an eyebrow. “I’m assuming that’s a rhetorical question.”

I wrinkled my nose. “Is Doc really going to keep all this from them?”

“I don’t know what Doc’s gonna do, but it’s not my call. It’s his.” He lifted my chin. “And, hear me on this, I trust him to make the right call.”

I closed my eyes. “I don’t know if I can keep this from Willow and Jazz.”

“You have to.”

“I know.” I nodded into his chest. “It’s just going to be really, really hard.”

“I get it, Pebbles. Swear to god, I do.”

I gripped his cut. “I want to
