Going Under_ A Bill Roberts Thriller - Silas Payton Page 0,67
woman came in and closed the door behind her. She was dressed in a white lab coat. Her name tag said Dr. Harrington. She carried a briefcase in one hand and a file in the other with Sarah's name on it. She didn't say anything to Sarah as she put her case down on a side counter and opened it. She then opened Sarah's file and started flipping through pages.
After a few minutes, she turned to Sarah and said, "I've been told, I have to see if you're sane or not." She stared at Sarah without saying anything further. Her eyes were cold, like she'd spent too much time in the forensic ward.
There was an uncomfortable silence as they stared at each other.
Sarah caved and asked, "What's involved in the assessment, doctor?"
"I'm going to ask you a bunch of questions, we'll talk about how they make you feel, and then I'll have you fill out some questionnaires."
She turned back to her case and started shuffling around like she was organizing the contents.
"Is this the only assessment, or will there be more?" Sarah asked.
"We'll take this one step at a time. I'll let you know as we go along if I think more sessions will be necessary. For now, it is very important that you be relaxed during this interview. I've brought you some water to hydrate yourself. People tend to do better on these tests when they are hydrated."
"I'm not thirsty," said Sarah.
The doctor had already started pouring a cup from a bottle she took out of her case. "Are you sure you wouldn't like a drink? I've already poured it."
"I'm sure. But thank-you for asking."
The doctor seemed agitated. She turned back toward her briefcase and was working on something out of Sarah's sight. "Let's start with some simple questions to warm up, shall we?" She brought out a piece of paper and placed it on the table in front of Sarah. "Please read this and then we'll talk about it."
Sarah started reading the page. It was a news article about Dr. Nelson trying to run down the Inspector and how he was shot in the process. While she was reading the article, the doctor came around and was looking over her shoulder reading as well.
Sarah was half way through the article when she felt something pierce the side of her neck. She tried to pull away, but the doctor's hand was on the other side of her neck holding her still. She let out a loud scream but by the time the scream was over, the doctor had stopped and let go of her.
The doctor removed a long needle and put the cap back on the top.
"What have you done to me?" Sarah demanded.
"I told you it was important for you to relax -- well, it's important to me at least. You should be feeling very calm right about now."
Sarah noticed that the immediate panic of being drugged was fading.
"Why did you drug me?"
"Oh, I have big plans for you, Sarah Elliot. I'm going to make some notes for my record and then I'm going to help you fill out one of the questionnaires I told you about."
"That's nice of you," said Sarah, feeling the effect of the drug.
"Oh, I don't know. See, by the time we're done today, I'll have enough information to present to the District Attorney, that you won't be leaving this ward for a long time." She smiled a most sinister smile as Sarah tried to comprehend what she was saying.
"I don't want to stay. I want to go home," said Sarah.
"Well, I'm glad to hear you do, because what I've got planned for you wouldn't be near as fun if you wanted to be here."
Dr. Harrington sat across the table from Sarah with a note pad. "I understand you've met my brother," she said, as she nodded to the newspaper article.
Sarah didn't know what she meant by that. She looked down at the article. "You mean Inspector Roberts is your brother?"
"No, you stupid woman. Dr. Barry Nelson is my brother. But don't you worry, we're going to be talking a lot about my brother -- as I make you sorry you ever met Inspector Bill Roberts.

I would like to thank my wonderful family for all they do. If it wasn't for their patience and input this would not have turned out as well as it did. I subject them to the unfinished product for their thoughts, and they are very kind to indulge me. Their advise has been much appreciated.
I would also like to thank Joe Konrath, one of my favourite authors and advocate of self-publishing. Without his blog, A Newbie's Guide to Publishing, I wouldn't have started writing fiction. I would also like to mention and thank a couple of other bloggers that I have gained a lot from: Elizabeth Spann Craig at elizabethspanncraig , and Alexandra Sokoloff at screenwritingtricks .
I would also like to acknowledge that on a number of occasions, I referred to the criminal motorcycle gang in the book as bikers. As a biker friend of mine points out, it is believed that less than 1% of bikers -- those who ride a motorcycle -- are part of any criminal gang.
