sound like he wasn't as good as he thought he was. Resetting the team tournament was very visible. It would be something he could've warned his followers about. As soon as the KoG website went down, they'd probably moved to something like 4chan, 8chan, or a site even less well-known on the darkweb. They certainly wouldn't just go away.
And now they would see that their "leader" really did know his shit. He'd called it, it had happened, and the geeks who followed him would be so impressed. It was like hacking the President's phone: half ego boost and half cry for help. Jason spoke from experience on that one.
As soon as the elevator doors opened, Jason was striding toward the gaming hall. He didn't try to blend in. His purpose wasn't to go unnoticed this time. No, he was on the clock, and any second, Soul Reaper could realize he was busted. Thankfully, Bradley and Alex were standing right at the doors, watching everyone who went through them.
"I need your help with this," Jason said, catching Alex's arm to propel her inside. Bradley followed as Jason headed for the high table. Thankfully, the guys were still there, laughing about something. Jason didn't even care what. "Void?" he said, gesturing for the man to step aside with him.
"What's going on?" Logan asked when they were all safely away from everyone else.
"I just blocked an IP for a computer in this room." Jason looked at Alex. "I need you to show your badge and inform this gaming company that you will need their help to check the IP address of every computer from seat 321 to 340. Have us help you as well. Void as a representative as the PLG, say I'm a contractor for you, don't care, and Bradley as an agent. Anyone else you can think of an excuse for will help." Then he looked at Logan. "Tell the other guys to watch those seats, because someone is going to realize he's been blocked, not just dropped, and chances are good that he'll - "
"Bail," Void finished for him. "Walk away from the scene of the crime. On it."
Logan walked away without needing anything else. Alex reached into her back pocket for her badge and headed for the front of the room where the game developers were still frantically trying to fix whatever problem they thought they had. Jason's eyes were scanning the computers, trying to figure out where the seats were in relation to everything else. Bradley just dropped a hand onto Jason's shoulder.
"Alex thinks you should name your kid after her. I said you're more likely to name it after one of your idols, although I think Logan would be a pretty good name."
"Just not Jeff," Jason joked, refusing to look away from the few dozen people still typing away at their computers. "Already too many of those."
Most people, if they were still in here, were talking to friends. A few would be reviewing the streams or such, so that wasn't too suspicious. Jason was looking for someone who seemed just a little too frantic, or maybe a bit too calm about it all. Laughing was good, so his eyes slid over a few guys. Women were highly unlikely to be the culprit, since getting women out of gaming didn't serve them in any way.
The problem was that no one stood out.
"Bradley!" Alex said, waving him over. "Ok, Smash Games is going to help, but I want you available for them, and Mr. Weiss is here for the PLG, so he has authorization over the general convention rules about third-party programs, right?"
"Yes, ma'am," Bradley assured her. "We have to work through him."
"Good. Handle that," she ordered. "You, help him."
Jason met her eyes, aware that she hadn't used his name at all. That meant she was still keeping his cover, just in case they needed to use it later, and in that second, he decided he trusted her completely. She wasn't just trying to close this case because it would break her career if she didn't. She understood that it meant a lot to him. He wasn't just a replaceable person.
The group turned for the section of computers, but didn't make it two steps before the shrill scream of a woman came from outside the gaming hall. Everyone stopped. Through the open doors that separated this room from the hotel's lobby on the other side, a dozen men in black could be seen. Armed men! They moved close together,
