A Flighty Fake Boyfriend (Men of St. Nachos #2) - Z.A. Maxfield Page 0,75

if we go up to my room.”

He flushed and glanced away. “I’m trying to be respectful here. Trying not to jump your ass in the first ten seconds.”

“Then I hope you fail spectacularly.” I sipped my whiskey.

“We have all night,” he pointed out. “You need to treat me to a nice dinner at least.”

“I’m at your service. Where would monsieur like to go?”

“I hear they have a nice restaurant here.”

“I’m sure they do.”

“And a revolving cocktail lounge?”

“Yup.”

“Then we won’t need to give LA traffic any more of our time.” He slung his arm over the back of my chair. “The ride from the airport took forever.”

“LA’s a nightmare.”

“I’ll take St. Nacho’s any day, thank you.”

I agreed wholeheartedly. I would too if it were possible. “How are your parents taking your decision to move back there?”

“It’s a slow process. You convincing Lila to hire me on as a consultant made things a lot easier.”

“You’re an asset,” I reminded him. “And as you get up to speed, I’m sure you’ll prove your worth in a dozen different ways. Lila likes you, by the way. She often asks about you.”

“Have you talked to her about the possibility of working remotely?”

With a sigh, I shook my head. “It’s not that simple in my case.”

He patted my hand. “That’s okay. Baby steps.”

“I’m frankly worried how she’ll take the idea. I’ve been there twelve years. It was my first real job after college.”

“I know.”

“I have it so good there. I don’t want to shake things up and lose everything for what amounts to an experiment.”

He stiffened.

“I meant working remotely, not being with you. You are a fait accompli in my book. No question.”

“I knew that.” He turned back toward the bar and his drink, which he studied as though it held answers. “Remote work is the future. I really believe that. Some employers think that if people aren’t at a physical building, they’ll work fewer hours, but several studies have found they actually work more.”

“I’ve heard that.”

“Besides, you practically work around the clock as it is. I’m sure Lila would have no fear of you slacking off to take up gaming or whatever.”

“Everyone seems to think I should work fewer hours.”

“True that. Especially tonight. Tonight, you’ll have to let me do all the work.”

My face burned because I could totally get behind that idea. I sat back and let him talk about his parents, about his flight, about looking for a suitable place to live in St. Nacho’s and finding more contract work so he could afford it.

We laughed together. Ordered a second drink.

Eventually he wound down.

“Take me upstairs, Ryan.” He bit his lip in a coy way that made me hard. “I brought you a present.”

“Oh yeah?” I got our tab and left some bills on the bar before sliding from my chair. “Should I be scared?”

“You”—Epic eyed me—“should be tickled pink. Where to?”

“Green elevator. Fifteenth floor.”

He led me there and pressed the Up button. We waited patiently with seven other people before boarding and stared at the numbers while the car rose into the sky. There’s a point in the ride where the car passes through the roof, and then you’re outside, with a view of the city. I only had eyes for Epic.

We made it to the room where I keyed the lock and let him in. He was on me before his suitcase hit the ground, peeling away my shirt and unzipping my trousers. My head swam as I tried to return the favor, but my hands shook so hard I couldn’t do it.

I’d left the Do Not Disturb sign out so the maids wouldn’t bother cleaning. The king-size bed was still unmade from the morning. He dropped me into its softness and fell on top of me, wrestling me out of my clothes.

“Gonna be hard and fast,” he told me. “Can’t wait.”

“Me neither,” I gasped. “Bring it.”

I had lube and condoms ready, hoping he wanted this as much as I did. He telegraphed his need by the flush on his chest, his rapid breathing, his trembling fingers when he opened and readied me. He’d barely unzipped, and I guessed he planned to fuck me fully dressed, which added some hot new level of sexy I never imagined existed.

“This is so hot. Fuck me…now.”

“Don’t want to hurt you.”

“You won’t. Please,” I begged him. “Please. You won’t hurt me. I’ve waited too long for this.”

He held both my hands with one of his and pushed inside me. It was perfect. He was perfect—graceless
