have the ability when we haven’t had a Hunter among us in so many years?”

“I’m not sure, but we think my mother had the ability. I may have inherited it from her. I discovered my powers when I accidentally… turned a guy to stone?” I glanced up at Kai, worried this was the part he’d run from.

Instead, he closed the distance between us to rest a gentle hand on my cheek. I leaned into him, loving his touch.

“You turned a guy to stone? Because you drained his life? Or soul or whatever?”

I just nodded.

“That must have been some pretty fucking intense sex.” I whipped my head up to him again, shock in my voice.

“Yeah, it was. Wait, you don’t care? That I can literally kill people with this ability? I mean yeah, it grants me incredible strength and power, but like… no issues with being fucked to death?”

Now it was Kai’s turn to look shocked. “You’re planning on fucking me to death?”

I laughed, pushing him away slightly to walk around him and plop on the bed. “No, dumbass. I can control how much I take, which is why his-holy-douchiness is still sitting here.” Caspian saluted me at the mention of his name, and I stuck my tongue out at him.

“As long as you’re not about to turn me into a gargoyle, I guess this makes sense. You’re our princess, the one meant to protect and lead our people. You should be the most powerful.” I gaped at Kai. He was taking this all so well.

Why did I think he wouldn’t? It was so easy to forget that Kai had been there with me through everything. Of course he wouldn’t be upset to learn I was a one-woman killing machine. I smiled at my Bloodsworn, happy to have gotten through the worst of this journey. Or so I hoped.

“Well then, if you’re going to take things so well, I may just take a sip from you next time.”

“Sounds sexy.” Kai shot me a wink. I guess that’s that.

Comfortably wrapped in a towel and sitting on the bed, I suddenly realized I felt incredible. So incredible that I thought I might have been able to march right up to little miss might-be-my-half-sister-bitch-queen-extraordinaire herself and show her exactly how powerful I could be.

“Just tell me what’s going on so that we can help you.” By me, he meant us. I was pretty sure that Caspian already had a good idea of what I was thinking, but Kai? He didn’t think that way. He was still fresh from the ocean, literally.

Though the way he’d handled his body just now would suggest otherwise.

“Knock it off, Bloodsworn. She’ll tell you when she gets good and ready.”

He and Kai continued their bickering while we marched down the hall toward Pearl’s room. I swear by the way they went at it; you would think they were the ones to be married. We were clean now, but Caspian still wore his bloodied shirt, and we could probably all use a nice long rest. This time I knocked since I didn’t want to walk in on my brother and his wanna-be queen doing... well, what I’d just done a few minutes ago.

I balled my hand into a fist and beat on the closed door.

Caspian leaned in and put his ear on it. “Damn, that’s all they do. All damned day. They fuck while we investigate. Must be nice to be King.”

Slightly hypocritical there, Cass.

The door flew open and there was Pearl in all her glory, or lack of it. Her hair was a mane of sex and the thin blanket she held revealed more than it covered.

I groaned and rolled my eyes before I pushed my way into the room. My stupid pain in the royal ass brother was on the sofa, a similar blanket wrapped around his hips, barely covering him.

“Zaniah, your manners have diminished since you came to the surface. What could you possibly want that couldn’t wait?”

Kai came up behind me and bowed at the waist, darting his eyes to the floor. “Your highness, nice to see you again.”

Seems he was still in Bloodsworn mode. Maybe even still feeling guilty about my father. I’d have to give him a few pointers on how to be a normal person some time.

“Oh, would you look at that. The douchebag heir is here, doing nothing. What a fucking surprise!” Caspian undid all of Kai’s show of respect with one sentence.

“I just came to let you know that I am taking
