Fire (Pirate Cove Academy #3) - Rae Foxx Page 0,12

groups of students. As we turned down a darker hallway, I spotted Kai who winked at me as we passed by him, but was otherwise enthralled in a conversation with other students. Somewhere he’d found a uniform, and though I hated mine, his made him look impeccably gorgeous.

Fuckhead.

“Here,” Raven barked, startling me and drawing my attention away from Kai and to the classroom she’d picked. Not the same one as the other meetings. She held the door as Caspian and I began to move inside. “Nope, not you.”

She poked Caspian in the chest with her perfectly manicured finger, who furrowed his eyebrows as his irises swirled with darkness.

“The fuck?” He said and stepped forward, posturing the woman who just tossed her dark hair over her shoulder and shrugged. Like Caspian was only the smallest of annoyances. The arrogance in the gesture made me bristle.

“You’re a fucking traitor to your kind. I mean, I would maybe let you come in on the taste of your cock alone, but that’s not enough this time. I’ll speak to the princess alone. She might be a floundering idiot, but at least she’s loyal. I either meet with her alone or not at all.”

She honestly looked like she couldn’t care less either way, but I did. I needed information from the bitch and I could handle myself…. kind of.

I nodded to Caspian, who just leaned down to plant a sloppy kiss on my mouth. The ownership in that gesture did not escape me, but I didn’t care. I kissed him back before gently pushing him away.

We went into the pitch black classroom and Raven closed and locked the door behind me. I bumped into what I assumed was a desk that clattered and screeched against the floor. Classy entrance there, Zan. Real princess shit.

“You know, I didn’t think you had it in you. I mean killing your own father? Takes some big lady balls.” Raven’s voice sounded bored as ever.

I felt around for something to lean against. Even though she couldn’t see me, I wanted to be aware of my surroundings. “I didn’t,” I managed to retort, though the reply was weak at best. I needed to give her the least amount of information while pulling the most I could from her.

She laughed. “Didn’t what, princess? Kill your father? Or kill at all? I mean, are there others?” Ha, that was rich coming from the dick-and-soul sucking combo Queen.

Wishing I could see her face, or at least an area around me, I pushed open my hand and turned my palm up, conjuring a bit of fire like a candle. “Why don’t you tell me?”

Raven’s eyes widened for only a moment, but then she schooled herself. “Congratulations, big girl. Look at you, playing with fire and shit.” She turned her hand slightly and brought darkness all around us so that my tiny fire seemed pathetic at best. “I would be impressed, but if your bloodline were all that powerful, you would’ve mastered that a long time ago.”

“And you did? Come from powerful parents?” I asked, begging my fire to get bigger, but instead it flickered and waivered like it was about to give up on me.

A grin grew on her perfectly porcelain face. “Not all Mer were lucky enough to be raised by prim and proper kings, or around brothers whose egos are bigger than their balls. Although, once I saw those balls, I was highly disappointed. They were about as small as your bodyguard’s. You know, Kai.”

She nodded her head toward the door, motioning to where Caspian was still outside of the classroom.

I laughed. I was up to my eyeballs with the games and this bitch. “You know that’s not Kai. You’ve known that since the beginning. You had to have known he wasn’t a Mer, but do you know who he really is?”

I walked back and forth, pretending to be playing with my fire, but actually getting the lay of the land. If this conversation went south, I needed to know where I was, at least.

Raven raised her eyebrow. “Did you know who Hywel was? Did you know about his baby sister and his fucking weak pirate blood that made him have to shift between two worlds, caught in a net like a tuna who couldn’t breathe? Do you know why he wanted to come here and how I got him in?”

Her change of tactic was smooth, but I shook my head. I didn’t really want to know more about the Pirate I’d killed.
