A Filthy Christmas (Filthy Line #6) - Jaxson Kidman Page 0,31

he stopped the car completely and turned it off.

He turned and looked at me.

A mix of hurt and anger in his eyes.

I think I really fucked up this time.

“I get it, beauty,” Shane said. “I get it. You wanted to do for me what I did for you. With Blaze. Right? You saw Blaze and freaked out and wanted to show him you were better off. That’s why you jumped at me. And I went for the ride, thinking you’d figure it out. But you didn’t do that. You put me in the same boat as you. And it’s not that at all.”

“You kept the engagement ring, Shane,” I said. “You caught her fucking some other guy.”

“Some other guy?” Shane asked. “It wasn’t some other guy.”

“What do you mean?”

Shane let out a deep breath. “I’ve been keeping an eye out on her, okay? Nobody knows that. I check up on her. I kept the ring…” Shane laughed. “You know what? It doesn’t matter.”

He turned and reached for the keys.

I grabbed his hand and stopped him. “No. Don’t do that, Shane. Don’t hide from me. We have something here. You. Me. Us together.”

“Back at the Christmas tree lot. There was a guy with Stacy…”

“No.”

“Yeah.”

“That’s the guy…?”

“That’s the guy, Lita,” Shane said. “And the only reason I didn’t beat his ass senseless then or now… was because she loved him more than me.”

Shane looked at me again.

“How do you know that?”

“Stacy was… she was a dream, Lita.”

“A dream?”

“I was playing a gig one night and saw her sitting at a table. I had to talk to her. Something about her just caught my attention. So I finished the set, then bought her and her friend a drink. Then I bought her friend another drink to go away. I was that bold. Stacy was… she was innocent. A good girl. She wanted to be a veterinarian. She wasn’t even from LA. And she was with someone else. A guy named Peter. I of course made fun of his name. Peter as in dick, cock, penis…”

“Of course,” I said. “Who wouldn’t?”

“I pursued her hard, Lita,” Shane said. He looked at me again. “I wanted her in a way I never felt before. I was a rock star. I was living in LA, playing guitar, living life free. And it worked. It paid off. On a whim one night I told her to come see me. She had an hour drive and when she showed up… damn…”

Jealousy tore through my body.

I could feel the emotion coming from Shane as he spoke about Stacy.

“She told me she and Peter decided to take a break. He was going to go to business school somewhere else. She decided to drop out of college because she wasn’t happy. To me she was this beautiful innocent woman. I wanted to show her a different side of life. And I did. And it was great. It was fun. It was wild. I unlocked all her secrets. She figured out so much about herself and her life. I got a front row seat for it just like she got a front row seat to my shows. I never cheated. I never came close. I never would.”

“But she cheated on you, Shane.”

“That’s one way to put it,” he said.

“You don’t think she did?” I asked.

“I think she remembered who she was all along, Lita.”

“What the fuck does that mean?”

I heard the anger pouring from my mouth.

And Shane wasn’t going to take it.

“And you’re going to tell me you didn’t know Blaze was fucking around behind your back all along? How oblivious could you be? And you still love him. You’re hung up on the guy. Secretly waiting for him to come back to you and beg you to take him back. I had no desire to see Stacy ever again. Remember that difference, beauty.”

Shane shook my hand away from his and he tried to start the car again.

My right hand made another visit to Shane…

I cupped between his legs.

I squeezed.

He looked at me again.

I nodded.

He turned his head to the backseat of his car.

“Right now,” I whispered.

“I hope you realize how beautiful and crazy you are, Lita.”

Beautiful I didn’t know anything about.

But crazy was something I was used to.

I leaned back against the back-passenger window and lifted my hips off the leather seat.

It was such a rock star car.

Fast, loud, leather, with a crammed backseat.

If rock stars were such man whores, they should have considered cars with big backseats.

Shane slipped his hands from
