Fanning the Biker's Flame - Piper Davenport Page 0,45

sight of Shadow with his arms around one of the prettiest women I’d ever seen.

“Are you fucking kidding me?” I hissed, and Jane grabbed my arm.

“Don’t kill him,” she warned.

Shadow caught my eye and smiled, then frowned and I scowled at him, turning on my heel and making a run for the exit. Before I could get more than the few steps, however, I found myself lifted and thrown over his shoulder, and suddenly going the opposite way of the exit.

“Put me down!” I squealed.

“Shut it.” He smacked my bottom and kept moving toward the stairs.

“You fucking asshole!” I hissed, trying to squirm out of his hold, but he held me tight. “Let me down.”

He carried me through a doorway, then dropped me gently on the bed. I knifed off the mattress and tried to rush past him, but he wrapped an arm around my waist and slammed the door before I could leave.

“You cannot keep me hostage,” I sneered.

He crossed his arms and smirked. “Let it out, Posey.”

“No. You’re not worth the breath.”

“What do you think you saw, baby?”

“Don’t call me baby, you lying, cheating piece of shit.”

“I’ve never lied to you, and I’m also not a cheater,” he said calmly. “Wanna try again?”

I scowled. “You’re the one who had your arms wrapped around some whore! How about you try again.”

He slid his phone out of his pocket and his fingers slid over the screen before he handed it to me.

“What’s this?” I demanded.

“Look at it, Posey.”

I huffed as I glanced down at the phone. Shadow and the aforementioned whore were in boxing gloves and shorts, hands up like they were ready to fight each other and the caption read: ‘Sibling Rivalry.’

I suddenly felt sick and felt my face heat. “Um…”

“That’s Catalina,” he said. “My sister.”

I shoved his phone back at him and swallowed convulsively as I stared at the floor. “Your sister?”

“Yeah.” The tip of his boots touched mine. “My non-whore sister,” he said, his finger going to the bottom of my chin and lifting my head. “At least I don’t think she’s a whore. I try not to think about it.”

“Hmm-mm.” I still couldn’t meet his eyes.

“Look at me, Posey.”

“No,” I grumbled.

He chuckled. “You wanna come meet her?”

“No way in hell.” I finally met his eyes. “I want you to dig a hole and bury me in it.”

“You’re claustrophobic.”

“I’m sorry, Nolan.” I gripped his cut. “God, you must think I’m a crazy person.”

“In a good way.”

I rolled my eyes. “How can crazy be good?”

“Crazy’s fun.”

“Crazy’s crazy,” I countered.

He cupped my face and smiled. “For the record, I would never cheat on you, Posey. If shit goes south, we’ll end it, but you’ll never have to worry about me steppin’ out.”

“Same,” I breathed out.

He leaned down and kissed me. “You feel better?”

“About you, yes. About my behavior, no.”

“That was nothin’. You shoulda seen Olivia when she and Doc were datin’. She liked to throw kitchen appliances at his head.”

“That doesn’t make me feel better, honey.”

He chuckled. “Well, it should. Come on. I’m hungry and you need tequila.”

“Oh, I’m not going down there,” I argued. “Ever.”

“You want me to put you over my shoulder again?” he threatened. “Because I will.”

“You would, wouldn’t you?”

“Hell, yeah, I would. In a heartbeat.”

“You get that I’m mortified, right?” I whispered.

“Baby, you really don’t need to be.”

“Can we just stay here for a minute?” I begged.

“Only if you get naked.”

“Can we stay here all night if I get naked?”

He laughed. “No.”

I sighed. “If only it were that easy.”

He kissed me again and I wrapped my arms around his waist. “You’re gonna love Cat, baby. Come on.”

I gave him a squeeze, then nodded, and he led me downstairs. I tried to hide behind him, but my bestie ruined that plan, walking toward me with a shot of something.

“Hey Jane,” Shadow said as I downed the tequila.

“Hi. Good to see you again. So… you’ve obviously figured out she’s a bit of an overreactor,” Jane said, and I glared at her.

“More like a nuclear reactor,” Shadow retorted.

“Hey,” I growled, and I smacked his arm.

He laughed, wrapping his arm around me. “Come on Chernobyl, time to meet my sister.”

I groaned, handing the empty shot glass to Jane, and following Shadow over to where Catalina was talking with a small group of people.

Again, I tried to hide behind him, but he pulled me forward and slid an arm around my waist.

Catalina pulled away from the group with a huge grin. “Oh my god, you must be Posey.”

“Hi,” I rasped.
