the tip of my cock. I was his mate.

I blocked his path and set the tray on the counter so I could take his hands. “Tony’s calling a cab. Everyone told him to fuck off.”

Rex’s eyes widened as he looked through the plate glass window behind me. “Everyone?”

My grin widened. “Mmhmm.” I was touched that they were standing up for me. I’d been so afraid that they’d take his side, since they’d known him for so much longer.

“Finally,” Rex whispered. “I want to see this.” He led me to the door and stood at my shoulder, his hand on my back. Behind me, the customers at tables craned their necks to get a good look, too.

The taxi was sitting there idle while Isaac paced back and forth, throwing his hands in the air and ranting.

We didn’t need to hear his words to see how people were reacting to his breakdown. There was no other word but ostracization. There were even guys standing between the cupcake shop and Isaac, in case he tried to come this way.

My heart squeezed and I raised my hand to my throat, which suddenly felt tight. They were protecting us. Not that I felt like I needed protection anymore—I’d just found the confidence that he’d kept ground down for so long.

With my Daddy at my side—whether physically or not—there was nothing Isaac could say to upset me anymore.

Finally Isaac lurched into the taxi, flipping everyone off dramatically. When he slammed the car door, a spontaneous cheer went up. Rex grinned and pushed the door open, leading me outside to enjoy the moment.

“It’s over,” I said quietly and then grinned at Rex. “Well and truly over.” Humiliation wasn’t Isaac’s thing. Not being on this end of it, anyway. No way would he risk coming back for another round of it.

“No, it’s not,” Rex whispered, and I instantly knew he wasn’t talking about the same thing I was. He gazed up at me with a fond smile and leaned in to press his lips, warm and firm, against my cheek. “It’s just beginning,” he whispered, his breath ghosting along sensitive skin until my whole body shivered in pleasure.

I whimpered softly and wrapped an arm around Rex’s waist, tipping my head to the side so Rex could keep pressing kisses along my neck. “Yes, Daddy.”

A throat-clearing interrupted us, and I groaned as Rex pulled away. “Well, I was coming to check on you.” It was Brighton in a bright shirt made of fluorescent patches of pink, blue, and yellow, skinny black jeans, and suspenders. “But I take it you’re fine.”

Rex laughed, his arm firmly settling around my shoulders. He pulled me into him and nodded. “We’re fine,” he agreed. “More than fine… great.”

Brighton gestured behind us to the shop. “Are you out of cupcakes already?”

“Just about.”

“Phew.” Brighton shook his head. “You know, this business is doing a lot better than I thought it would.”

“Well…” Rex murmured and squeezed me tightly. “I want to do even better,” he told Brighton. “Do you think it’s a good idea if I offered the place in the daytime for private date space, and maybe did an app for pickup?”

I pressed my lips together and nodded hard. Rex eyed me, and I blinked innocently up at him.

Brighton laughed. “If you don’t, I’ll personally teach Slate how to whip you.”

“Okay, okay!” Rex held up his hands. “I’ll get right on that, then.”

But I could hardly breathe. An app? He’d spent so long nursing the wound of having the joint venture with his friends ripped away. Hiring people to help him once again… that wasn’t an idea Rex would say lightly.

He’d agreed to trust people—and he’d wanted me to hear that.

“You could get big if you do deliveries,” Brighton suggested. “Way bigger.”

“I’m up for it. Thanks to Slate, I’m starting to think bigger,” Rex said softly, and though he didn’t look at me, his grin turned affectionate again. “And maybe believe in people a little bit more.”

“Good.” Brighton scratched his chin thoughtfully. “We’ll talk next week,” he promised Rex and then smiled at me. “See you later, Slate.”

I raised my hand for a little wave and saw him off, then turned to Rex. “Really?” I whispered. “You’re going to go for it?”

“My boy,” Rex murmured, resting his forehead on my shoulder, “with you here, I feel like I could move the world.”

I could honestly say that I knew exactly what he meant.

“But first, let’s close up,” Rex said briskly. “I have other plans for you tonight.”

“Yes,
