Evermore Academy (Evermore Academy #3) - Audrey Grey Page 0,138

was declared unsolved, there was a daisy shoved into his mouth and the name Haley carved into his chest.

A few months after the wedding, an anonymous donor bought Eclipsa’s contract from the Winter King. She’s now free to work for whomever she wants, which is . . . well, we don’t really know, and I’m okay with that.

“So tea?” Eclipsa repeats, ignoring our groans.

I grab my ice-blue jacket, the one Valerian gave me the first year of school. I can afford all the jackets in the world now, but this one is still my favorite.

Mack hooks her arm in mine as we walk to the elevators, gabbing about all the latest developments in our world. Zinnia and the kids are coming to the city during Christmas break, and we’re planning a zillion things to do while they’re here. Now that the Tainted Zone is no longer tainted, things are easier at the farm, but Zinnia still misses her sister.

She comes to the city every so often to check on me and give me updates on her search for her daughter. Some of the darklings turned human have no memory, so we hold out hope that Helen is still out there.

“Jace just bought a twenty-million-dollar mansion in the Hamptons,” Mack is saying as she pushes the first-floor button. “He only posts ten times a day on TikTok about it.”

Jace was one of the students who opted out of their fourth year. He now runs his father’s real estate business. Reina left as well. Last I heard, she spent all her trust and was living in a Fae art commune in the West Village and working as a barista at Starbucks.

Inara, on the other hand, still has massive amounts of wealth. She’s spotted every weekend with a different designer purse—and male—on her arm.

When the talk turns to Evelyn, my heart clenches. “They found her remains last month,” Mack says. “Her family is having a memorial service this weekend.”

It’s times like this that make me determined to change the Fae laws involving mortals. For every Fae, there’s an Evelyn or a Vi—mortals hurt by their world.

A world I’m going to change.

We step out of the revolving door and the cold New York City wind hits. I’m fixing my hair when I feel it.

The tug on the bond.

“What did you guys do?” I ask, but they just laugh as they walk away. Ruby flies above them, humping the air and pretending to kiss her hand before waving goodbye.

“I wanted some time with my mate, alone,” comes a sultry voice that reaches all the way into my middle.

I whip around to see Valerian leaned against the building. He’s clad in a dark peacoat and matching gloves, his deep blue hair—the color of raven feathers in the sunlight—artfully tousled to the side. Fat snowflakes drift around him, despite there not being a single cloud in the cold, November sky.

My heart clenches at the sight of him. We made the decision to take this slow—not that there’s a slow mode, really, where mates are concerned, but we both have things we’re working toward before we settle down and start a family.

I’m fighting to save this world while he fights for the Everwilde. The Scourge and darklings may no longer be a threat, but the trolls are worse than ever, and the courts are fractured. It will take a long time for Valerian to bring the Winter Court back to its full glory, and I will be there to help every step of the way.

Resisting the urge to leap into his arms, I give him a coy smile. “Mate? She must be a lucky woman.”

“She is.”

“Hmm.” I stroll closer, aware of the way his eyes drink me in. “How lucky?”

“Come here and I’ll show you, Princess.”

And I do.

My story isn’t over. There are still so many things I have to accomplish and overcome, and the same for Valerian. But for now, this chapter of our life concludes like the clichéd storybook tale.

Once upon a time, a Winter Prince and a Summer Princess fell in love . . .

The End

Afterword

Thank you so much for reading Evermore Academy: Summer. I hope you enjoyed Summer and her friends as much as I loved writing them.

In case you didn’t see the post in my author group, this will be the final book in the series. As much as I love these characters, the storyline was best ended at book three. BUT . . . there may be a spinoff series in the future—you never know!
