taken him seriously.

Laura knew him better than that.

“Well, it’s your news actually,” she said. “So you definitely want to hear.”

“And what news is that?” he asked curiously.

She had him now. Laura yawned and shrugged, in full control. Apparently Rak had forgotten, and so now she could drag this out for a little bit, try to get him riled up.

“Out with it Fitzy,” he rumbled, a twinkle in his eye.

“Oooooh, I hate it when you call me that!” she growled in her best dragon-voice impression.

Rakell laughed and lunged forward, gently tackling her into the bed, his fingers finding her sides.

“No! No!” she shrieked. “Stop it! I am almost forty, not a teenager. Don’t. Nooooooo!”

Her protests went unheeded, though eventually they dropped off into more of a moan as he switched from tickling her to kissing her.

I am never going to get this information out if I don’t just blurt it.

Was that his plan all along? Probably. Gah, she hated it when he won like that.

“The house is yours,” she said through his kisses. “Deal is done.”

Rakell paused, tilted his head. “No, you’re wrong.”

Laura frowned, not reacting as he kissed her several times more.

“Wrong? I’m not wrong. How can I be wrong? They quite literally just called me and said they accepted the offer. The house is yours.”

“Well,” Rak said, pulling back, looking into her face. “Then I would prefer it if you were wrong.”

“You don’t want the house anymore?” she said, frowning. “Did you decide you don’t like it either?”

“Love the house,” he said.

“Okay. Can you clarify then? Exactly how you would prefer if I was wrong about you and the house.”

“Because,” Rakell said, his voice a deep rumble.

He reached up to stroke her face, silently looking at it. Laura blushed under the intense scrutiny. She still wondered how he’d ever come to choose her of all people. It seemed too good to be true, but she knew it wasn’t. It was genuine.

“Because,” he repeated, snagging her attention again. “I would prefer it, if we had the house.”

She stiffened, inhaling sharply.

“Rakell Teres,” Laura said, watching his face. “Are you asking me to move in with you?”

“Yes,” he said without question, without hesitation. “I am. It would make me the happiest dragon around.”

Laura bit her lip, and nodded, unable to trust her voice.

“Yeah?” Rak asked, his face lighting up.

“Yes of course, oh of course I will Rak!” she yelped and flung her arms around his neck.

“So the house is ours?”

“The house is ours.” Laura grinned at him. “You know what this means though?”

Rak stared back warily. “What?”

“It means you get to help me redecorate it!”

Rak’s wariness turned into a frown. “Redecorate it? What do you mean? It looks fine how it is.”

Laura sighed. “No. Just no. The front hall needs new paint color, something warm and inviting. The master bedroom needs that, and new blinds. I’m not dealing with those hideous things. Also the vanity could stand to be upgraded. I need more space. Oh, and the kitchen, the backsplash has got to go!”

Rakell sighed and flopped back on the bed. “What have I gotten myself into?”

She knew he was just being overdramatic. So instead of taking pity on him, she piled it on.

“Also I wouldn’t mind replacing the flooring on the main level with something lighter. Oh, and we could get new countertops throughout that all match? What do you think about a new deck off the back as well? And then we could—”

Rakell silenced her with a kiss.

Laura returned it.

I’ll allow this distraction, she thought as he pushed her back down onto the bed, taking control.

Turns out his shirt came off as easily as it went on.

Yep. Definitely going to allow it.

“I love you,” he murmured into her ear some time later.

Laura bit her lip, wrapping her hands around his neck and kissed him thoroughly.

“I love you too Rak. With everything I am.”

About the Author

Riley Storm

Riley is one of those early-morning people you love to hate, because she swears she doesn’t need caffeine, even though the coffee-maker is connected to her smartphone. She lives in a three-story townhouse by the good graces of a tabby-cat who rules the house, the couch, the table, well, basically everywhere. When she’s not groveling for forgiveness for neglecting to pet her kitty enough, Riley is strapped in to her writing chair coming up with crazy worlds where she can make her own decisions of when feeding time is and how much coffee can be drank without her friends—of which she has three—holding yet another intervention that they threaten to post on the internet.
