The Deputy and His Enforcer (Kincaid Pack #3) - Kiki Clark Page 0,92
“Sometimes I forget under all that big brother bossiness is an honest-to-god cop.”
Grunting, Robson took a sip of his beer but didn’t answer. His hours had been slowly increasing now that the sheriff had apparently gotten the go-ahead from Kincaid. Which… was good. Really. It was just that he was bored and the other deputies were annoying and he wanted to spend more time with Marcus, not less.
Sliding a hand over Marcus’s fidgeting one, he gave his mate a reassuring smile. “She’s going to love you, cariño.”
Marcus’s Adam’s apple bob as he swallowed, his green gaze shooting over to where Robson’s mom was laughing at something one of her sisters said. Robson wasn’t sure how Nico had pulled off getting his mom’s sisters there for the shower on such short notice, but he owed the man. None of them had known until Nico was knocking on the farmhouse door, loaded down with suitcases. Tia Mya had practically shoved the poor guy out of the way to get in the door and wrap Robson’s mom in a hug.
There had been a lot of tears and a lot of smiles. Reesa had been beside herself with the amount of attention she and the baby were getting. All of it filled Robson with such a sense of peace and gratitude it was almost more than he could handle.
And then there was his anxiety-ridden mate.
Smirking, Robson squeezed Marcus’s hand and threaded their fingers together. Leaning closer, he whispered in his mate’s ear, “Wanna slip away for a blow job? I bet that would relax you.”
There were choking noises from at least two people at the table, but Robson couldn’t take his eyes off the delightful pink filling Marcus’s cheeks as he turned to stare at him in horror. “Robson, they can hear you.”
Robson tore his eyes away to give a charming smile to the rest of the table. “I know.”
Everyone but Teo had super hearing at their table, and the one just behind Marcus had another three or four people, but Robson was getting used to being around folks with enhanced abilities. In fact, he was finding it ridiculously charming how adorably frustrated Marcus got when he was turned on by Robson’s suggestions and embarrassed that others could hear them. It was a fun game Robson had started playing to get his mate to actually leave his office at the end of the day or to take a real lunch break.
Nothing got Marcus to leap to his feet faster than when he needed to sprint around his desk to slap a hand over Robson’s mouth.
Nico, Vanessa, and Fiona were grinning at him and Marcus, Colt looked amused but wasn’t staring because he was a nice guy like that, and Patrick was laughing, but his head was down to try and hide it. Robson had gotten to know the other Enforcers pretty well in the last week and a half. He’d made a point to visit Marcus at least once every day at the manor—either to eat lunch together or to drag him away at night, depending on his own work schedule—and had spent quite a bit of time with the others as well.
He could see why Nico was Marcus’s best friend—the man was hilarious and always willing to lend a helping hand. But Robson was secretly on a mission to befriend the two female Enforcers. There was just something about them that screamed how deadly they really were, and Robson found he liked that. He rarely missed his time in the military, but he sometimes missed the men and women he’d served with, and Fi and V reminded him of his fellow infantry soldiers: tough with a dash of crazy.
“Offer stands, cariño. You let me know if you change your mind.” He winked, pressing a quick kiss to the corner of Marcus’s stern mouth.
Marcus was saved from answering by Robson’s mom stepping up onto the raised platform Nico had brought in and set up at one end of the large conference room they were using in the rec center for the party. There was a throne-like chair on top with a small table next to it. The tables of food were along the wall to the right of the platform, and a table overflowing with gifts was on the left.
“Thank you, everyone, for joining us today,” his mom said, the room quieting without her having to even raise her voice. “Please fill your plates. Reesa will begin opening gifts once she eats and feeds
