mate.”

Chapter Eighteen

I’ve never been with anyone before.

The words kept repeating in Robson’s head, tantalizing and teasing him as his brain tried to process the fact that the gorgeous man splayed out before him had never been touched or kissed or brought to orgasm by another person. Robson had so many questions, but there was only one he’d ask right now…

“Shifters don’t, like, age differently, right? You’re not really only sixteen?” He’d lifted his head so he could see Marcus’s face more clearly and found the pout on the usually stern mouth adorable as fuck.

“No, I’m not sixteen. I’m twenty-six. Now will you please kiss me?” The breathy way Marcus asked for his kiss undermined the abrupt words, the slight quiver giving away how much Robson’s mate needed him.

His mate needed him.

The realization lit up a part of Robson’s brain that had been dormant, firing up previously untapped instincts that urged him into motion. Dipping down, he licked Marcus’s lower lip and hummed at the moan it produced.

“Tell me what you need while I still have a clear head, cariño.”

Whimpering and thrashing against the pillow, Marcus wrapped his arms and legs around Robson and clung to him. “You. I need you. When I thought you didn’t want this, me, us—” Marcus choked on his words, and Robson shushed him, burying his face in his neck and kissing all the skin he could reach.

“I was just scared. I’m sorry, cariño.” He licked the tendon running up Marcus’s neck, then peppered kisses over his whiskered cheeks and jaw. “I’ll make you feel good.”

At Marcus’s shiver, he pressed a smile into the corner of his mouth. He wondered absently how much of Marcus’s reactions—the way he seemed to be almost overwhelmed with sensations and feelings—was due to everything being new and how much was their mating connection. Bennett had seemed pretty cool even though Robson had hijacked his class, so he made a mental note to ask him about shifters’ reactions to their mates.

But at the moment, he had something much, much better to focus on.

Gentle as a whisper, he slid his lips across Marcus’s, drawing back just enough to separate them when Marcus jerked forward to press their mouths more firmly together. “Ah, ah, ah. Slow down, cariño. We’ve got all the time in the world.”

They were so close he could hear Marcus grind his teeth together. “I’m supposed to be at a meeting this afternoon, and your brother is walking toward the house right now.” At Robson’s chuckles, Marcus tipped his face away to glare at him, one eyebrow lightly arched. “So maybe go a little faster.”

Grunting, he leaned forward and finally gave them both what they wanted, Marcus’s soft lips parting on a small gasp at the full contact. Using the opening, he sucked on Marcus’s bottom lip until he whimpered, then swept his tongue inside, tasting his mate for the first time. He slid his fingers back into Marcus’s thick hair and tilted his head to the side just a little, making the angle so much better and allowing him to kiss him deeper and harder.

Just when he was running the fingertips of his other hand down the side of Marcus’s lean body, intent on grabbing his thigh to hitch it up higher around his waist so they could line up better, he heard the kitchen door shut with a bang and felt Marcus jerk beneath him.

Sighing, he slowly pulled away from Marcus’s addictive mouth and stared down into his hazy eyes. “Hold that thought.”

He groaned in annoyance as he rolled away from Marcus’s warmth so he could reach his phone on the bedside table.

Robson: Can you go occupy yourself somewhere else for a few hours?

His brother’s response came through quickly.

Teo: Shit. Did I just wake you up with the door? I’m sorry. I’ll be quiet. Promise.

Chuckling, he shot Marcus a heated look, smiling wider when his blush began to spread down to his shoulders and chest.

Robson: I was awake. But I’m about to have sex with my boyfriend and I can’t guarantee how quiet we’ll be.

His brother must have said something out loud when he read the text because Marcus shot upright, eyes wide and horrified. He looked at Robson, mouth gaping slightly.

“What is it? Did he say something offensive?” Robson doubted it, but if needed, he’d go kick his brother’s ass.

Ducking his chin, the corners of Marcus’s mouth tipped up as he shook his head, then he turned over and tucked himself under Robson’s arm. “No,” he said
