The Deputy and His Enforcer (Kincaid Pack #3) - Kiki Clark Page 0,54
Robson was about to step back and give him some space to get his bearings, Marcus leaned into him, burying his nose in Robson’s neck and making a sort of whimpery growl that made Robson’s balls tingle. Some instinct told him what that sound meant. Without pausing to think, he wrapped his arms around Marcus’s slender body, threading the fingers of one hand into the hair on the back of Marcus’s head to hold him more securely and let him know he could stay where he was as long as he needed.
Chapter Fourteen
For three days after their hug in the woods, Marcus’s wolf had felt more settled than he had in years. Even Nico commented on how relaxed he seemed.
But by the time the class at the rec center had rolled around on Wednesday, he was feeling restless again. He also couldn’t help but be grateful he wasn’t the one leading the discussion later that day since all he could focus on was how warm Robson’s body had been and how good he’d smelled.
Or how he’d been able to feel that Robson had gotten aroused at their contact.
In the moment, his wolf had practically wanted to show Robson his belly, but when he thought about the heated moment later, he’d had the urge to claim again. It was like, in Robson’s presence, his wolf wanted to submit, but when they were apart, he wanted to possess and claim him.
It was confusing and arousing, and he wasn’t sure what to do.
Luckily, he’d gotten a text from Damien letting him know he had something for him at the shop, so he was just heading out—planning on stopping at Wicca We Can before arriving at the rec center—when he heard Kai call his name.
He stopped, almost to the garage, and turned to him with a smile. “Good afternoon, Alpha-mate.”
Kai jogged over to him, rolling his eyes. “Good afternoon, Enforcer Rivera.”
Marcus’s smile threatened to turn into a grin. “Your tone suggests I should be insulted, but I’m honored by my title.”
“Ugh, way to make me sound like an asshole.” Kai shoved at him, then continued toward the garage.
“I apologize. That wasn’t my intention,” he quickly said, hurrying after him.
Kai laughed and shot him a grin over his shoulder. “I know. I was just teasing.”
Falling into step beside him, Marcus nodded. “As was I.”
Skidding to a stop, Kai turned enormous green eyes on him. “You were?”
“Yes?” He was beginning to realize why he rarely joked with the others. Just as he opened his mouth to apologize again, Kai threw himself at Marcus and hugged him around the middle.
“That mate of yours is very good for you,” Kai whispered.
Stiffening, he hurried to say, “We haven’t—um, we’re not… What I meant to say is…”
“Oh my god.” Kai leaned back, giggling. “Don’t hurt yourself. Let’s go. You’re going to Wicca We Can, right? I’m supposed to meet Jess there in a little bit, so I figured you could drive me.”
Nodding numbly, they went into the garage and got into an SUV. They were on the road into town before Marcus could untangle his tongue. “He asked me on a date.”
He wasn’t sure why he said that—he hadn’t even told Nico about Robson asking him out—but when Kai squealed and turned toward him clapping his hands, Marcus was glad he had. Kai had grown up around humans and knew them better than Marcus did—the only humans he normally interacted with were pack members, and even then he didn’t spend a lot of time with them. He wasn’t the Enforcer most packmates went to for help or advice. When he’d first been promoted, that had saddened him, but he’d gotten used to it for the most part and tried to still serve his alpha and his pack as best he could. The mentorship classes were at least helping him feel more in tune with the pack in general.
“That’s great! Where are you going?” Kai asked, cheeks flushed with excitement.
“Um, I’m not sure. He said he’d pick me up on Friday evening at my house.” Entering the town limits, he shot a glance at Kai. “Should I not let him pick?”
Kai waved a hand dismissively. “No, that’s fine. Have you ever… Have you ever been on a date before?”
Marcus felt heat in his cheeks and cursed himself silently. He’d learned to control his blush a long time ago… except when it came to anything involving flirting or dating or sex. He was glad Kai sounded so nonchalant or else he would
