The Deputy and His Enforcer (Kincaid Pack #3) - Kiki Clark Page 0,113
whatever. I’m over it. Do you want to come to the farmhouse tonight for the fake housewarming party?”
Damien looked confused but nodded slowly. “I’d like that.”
“Cool.” He shot a look at Doc. “You too, Bell.”
Doc gave him a sarcastic salute, so Robson laughed and flipped him the bird before heading out of the clinic. Robson had joked about having a housewarming for Marcus—who his mom had seriously moved in against his mate’s lackluster protests—and his sisters and mom had latched onto the idea. Teo had just laughed and wandered outside to gaze adoringly at his cows or whatever.
He’d refused to let them plan a huge thing or spend days cooking, but there would probably still be thirty to forty people coming in and out throughout the evening.
As instructed, Robson had handed in his notice to the sheriff, then explained that he’d be working for the pack in a sort of advisory and training capacity so the man understood why. He still wasn’t sure it was a great idea to work so closely with Rick, but for the first time since moving home, he felt like he had a true purpose beyond his family or Marcus.
This would be his way of giving back to the pack that had become like a family to him.
Well, some of them. There were hundreds of members he’d never even met, but that would change. One of the things he planned on undertaking—with Rick’s okay—was assessing all the pack members who could potentially be called to fight in any coming battles. Then he’d have to train them.
One thing he was a little worried to bring up to Rick, though, was utilizing the hunter Gabriel. Robson had heard about him from Marcus and the others, even seen him creeping around the manor a couple of times, but hadn’t thought much about him until he’d seen him the other day during their run through the woods. They’d apparently come close to where the hunter was living, and he’d been outside training with a wooden dummy right at the edge of the woods. Robson had been seriously impressed with the man’s speed and skill and thought he could be very valuable to the pack… if certain shifters could get their heads out of their asses about him not having a scent.
Robson’s life was seriously weird now.
Driving past Wicca We Can on his way through town, he grinned, remembering the conversation he’d had with Tashmica while the others had packed up Marcus’s things. He’d been under strict orders from his mom, mate, and sisters to not lift anything, but he hadn’t been bored. Tash had popped in and sat down at the kitchen table with him and said she’d heard he had questions about magic. After talking for hours, he still didn’t get the whole magic and witches thing, but he didn’t feel apprehensive about her or the rest of the coven being part of the pack or about Reesa popping into the shop.
Sailing out of town, he relaxed into his seat, stretching his healed arm out to the side and tensing the muscles. It was insane that his wound was healed already but also awesome. Plus, it would give Marcus a little peace of mind about Robson’s breakable human body. His mate had been a little clingy the last couple of days, but Robson got it. He’d be the same way if Marcus were ever hurt, no matter how minor the injury.
When he pulled up to the farmhouse, the sun starting to sink lower in the sky, he couldn’t help but shut off the old Camry and smile up at the lit-up windows. Warmth filled him knowing his mate and his family were inside, happy and safe and waiting for him.
A pale, smiling face topped with red hair peered out at him through the front door window. Stepping out of his car, he met his mate on the front porch and wrapped his arms around him.
“How were things while I was gone?” Marcus had been nervous about being alone in the house with Robson’s family, and Robson had done his best to hide how hilarious he found that.
Sighing, Marcus pressed a kiss to his bite mark on Robson’s neck, then stepped back. “It was fine, obviously. You don’t have to be so smug about it.”
“Would I do that?” He laughed as Marcus rolled his eyes and turned back toward the house. “I invited Damien, by the way.”
That caught Marcus’s attention, causing him to swing back around. “So he was
