Darkmore Penitentiary 2 - Caroline Peckham Page 0,222

hole," he scoffed and I got to my feet, pulling Roary up beside me as I looked between the Fae I'd promised freedom to and read the disappointment in their eyes. The acceptance. But fuck that.

"How long do we have before the FIB bust in here to take the prison back by force?" I demanded, striding up to Cain with my jaw set.

"Just give up now. We'll go easier on you. Though not by much," he snarled back.

"Answer me, boss man. And don't forget I'm the only thing standing between you and death right now, so you might want to be polite about it."

Cain bared his fangs at me and I bared my teeth right back in a smug as fuck grin that I knew would only piss him off more. But I wasn’t smug. I was drowning. Everything I’d done, all of my best laid plans, it had all gone to shit. And if I couldn’t come up with some miraculous way to fix this then I really was going to end up stuck in this hell for years and years while my life passed me by.

Cain’s gaze roamed over my face and the hatred eased from his eyes, giving me a glimpse of the hurt living in him. I’d ripped his heart out and there was a time I wouldn’t have cared about that. But now it hurt as fiercely as if I’d ripped my own heart out too.

“How long?” I whispered again just for him and his jaw pulsed like he was considering answering me or not.

"Three days," he finally replied in a deadened tone. "From the moment the FIB are informed about the uprising, they will give the guards three days to fix the situation ourselves so long as we’re giving them regular updates. After that, they'll fill the place with so many FIB agents that you won't be able to move for them. And believe me, if you think the guards are bad, you really haven't seen anything in comparison to what those fuckers will do."

I smiled and turned away from him to address the rest of the room. "You hear that guys? Sounds to me like we've got three days with no guards and the full run of the prison to execute plan B and get our asses topside. Anyone else think that sounds too easy?"

Ethan folded his arms. "The prison is on lockdown, the Belorian is loose, every psychopath in here has access to their Order form, there are still at least a hundred guards hanging around the place looking to lock us all back up, not to mention this motherfucker who literally knows what we're planning to do and we are going to have to somehow keep him captive - assuming you aren't changing your mind about killing him. And the world’s most ruthless federal organisation are on their way here to round us up and throw us in the hole in three days’ time," he pointed out with a frown. "And you somehow think that getting out of here is going to be easy, love?"

"You're fucking delusional, Twelve." Cain growled as he looked between us. "How the fuck do you expect to get out of here? This place was built to keep monsters like all of you locked up for life."

"Simple, stronzo," I purred, turning around to look at him and smiling widely at the pure fucking rage in his eyes as Sin chuckled in that deliciously dark way of his. "You just became our ticket out of here."

__Author Note__

Heeeeey guys, how was that? You okay? The end got a bit intense there didn’t it? Don’t worry though, we would never kill Roary…in book 2. That’s more of an end of series death, don’t you think? Not that we are saying we would do that of course, but never say never, am I right? Are you crying over Claud? Maybe wondering if you remember him from book 1 or not? It did kinda suck for him though, gotta be a pretty awful death to be gobbled up by tooth worms I reckon.

Can we get a round of applause for the fact that we didn’t ruin cakes for anyone in this one? In fact, I do believe that no food was harmed in the making of this book! (woohoo!!) oh…there was that Plunger putting pubes in the oatmeal bit though now I come to think of it, oh and his past experience where he dunked his dipper in chocolate ice cream. But that’s okay because I’m sure none of you eat either of those things regularly or anything, so you definitely won’t be wondering if you have a curly grey hair swimming in it or not the next time you’re chowing down on your breakfast or dessert. On that note, who made a wish on the pubes? If you did, was the wish that we wouldn’t crush your soul with this one? Did it come true? I think this one was pretty low on the soul crushing for the most part. At least we left you with hope. I mean, it’s not a whole lot of hope but there’s a sliver there for sure.

Side note, do we have any bunnies here who were looking out for all of those tasty easter eggs? Did you pick up a hint or two for the other books in the Solaria world? I hope you enjoyed them if you did! And if you haven’t read the other books in this series yet then come on over and get reading Dark Fae and Zodiac Academy. I promise that even if the stories may make your heart hurt from time to time, they’ll make you smile too. And then come shout at us in the discussion groups and share your theories with us because we loooooove seeing what you’re all guessing and giggling over your right and wrong answers.

On a serious note, we would really like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for sticking with us throughout this crazy journey to co-authored madness that we’ve been on over the last year and a half. Caroline and I have been dreaming about being authors since we were little kids (we’re sisters if you didn’t already know that) and you are responsible for making those dreams become reality with your love and support for our books and characters and we love and appreciate each and every one of you so, so much. This year has been kicking us all in the lady balls as hard as it can in as many ways as it can and we have taken so much pleasure in bringing smiles to all of you via the written word and drawing you into the crazy worlds that exist inside our minds. The places we create may be a little dark and depraved at times, but they’re fun and free and full of possibilities too. So welcome to the madness of our internal monologues and we really hope you’ll stay with us for many more books to come!

Lots of love,
