it out on them. They already had enough to deal with. They didn’t need him coming into their job and making a scene.

“Surgery takes time.” Xavier leaned back in the chair and crossed his arms.

Hudson hadn’t expected the mercenary to sit with him in the waiting room, especially when his team was out looking for Rock and Carter. They’d taken Sarah with them. Grim had killed Buddy. She’d refused to leave the scene, insisting on being part of the group that would put a bullet in Carter’s head. She yelled her demand over the phone as Xavier drove Hudson to the hospital.

Hudson sighed. “Were they able to find a trail?” Discussing work would keep his mind clear for a few minutes, though he wasn’t sure what else he could discuss with the former CIA agent.

Xavier winced. “No, and I’m going to have to make the call. One of the wives is dead, and Carter took the other American.”

Hudson shook his head. He still couldn’t believe that Tamara had helped Rock. During their time in Yemen, she’d cried. He thought it was because she was scared of them, not because she missed her husband, the man who’d taken her from her family. Even after they got back, she hadn’t spoken to anyone but Grim.

“How long did they expect you to keep them in hiding? I still don’t understand why the CIA didn’t come to collect them after the mission.”

“Not everything is as it seems.” Xavier paused. “Carter has something big, and it’s way above your clearance level. My team will get Sarah back, and Grim will get her vengeance one day.”

Hudson shook his head. “You keep thinking she’ll listen to you. That woman is out for blood, and I don’t think you’ll be able to stop her.”

“And right there is the reason it’s easier to hire men. Oh, don’t give me that look. I believe a woman can do as much as a man. But with men, all I have to worry about is where they might stick their dick and the possibility that they won’t show up at work. With women, I have to deal with emotions. That’s not something they teach you in the academy.”

“You didn’t have a sister growing up?” Hudson asked. He was curious about Xavier.

“Jesus, no. One brother, but I didn’t find about him until later. I’m the product of years spent at a school for defiant children. That’s enough sappy shit for today. Looks like you have visitors, and I have calls to make.”

“Thank you.”

“Don’t worry about it.”

Hudson turned back to the sliding glass door as it swung open. Gumby had Mia in his arms and Sidney by his side. A whole slew of people came in behind them, but Hudson’s eyes were only on his little girl.

“Daddy.”

Hudson swung Mia up into his arms and held her tight to his chest. He pressed his nose to her hair and inhaled. It was the same flower scent Siena used.

“Daddy, you're holding me too tight.”

He held her a second longer before he released a smidge, but he didn’t put her down. Instead, he sat back down in the chair with her on his lap.

Kaiden sat in the chair next to him. “Any news?” he asked, his voice breaking with emotion.

“No, I haven’t heard anything.”

“She’s strong,” Sidney whispered. “How about I take Mia to the cafeteria and get some snacks for everyone so you guys can talk.”

Hudson squeezed Mia one more time before he let her leave with Sidney. Once his daughter was out of sight, he said, “Please tell me they found something.”

“Tamara had a burner phone in her room. She’d made at least a dozen calls to overseas numbers. Yesterday, Xavier’s team dismantled the Oaxaca Cartel. She gave the intel to Rock. Xavier had removed the extra security for the raid.”

Hudson glanced around the room. “Is Grim okay?”

As if saying her name had conjured her, she walked through the emergency room doors, dressed in a pair of yoga pants and a pink shirt. Casanova tried to put an arm around her waist.

“You touch me one more time, and you’re going to need a doctor to put your balls back on.”

“Where’s Yara?” Hudson asked.

“She’s at Doc’s house for the night, since mine has large bloodstains on the new hardwood floor. I’m so sending Xavier the bill for my floors,” Grim grumbled. “But we’re not here to talk about my issues. Have we gotten any word on Siena?”

“No, she’s still in surgery.” Hudson rubbed his hand over his
