whipped, and he didn’t care. If being whipped led him to feeling happy and whole, it was worth every joke they shot at him. Hudson thought two of his teammates weren’t far behind. Casanova talked about Angel every day and how much he wanted her. Doc spent time with Yara and worried about her husband coming for her. The rest of the team didn’t understand, but they supported him, and that was all that counted.
Hudson took another swig of his beer as he sat on the couch, watching a movie. Siena was putting Mia to bed. Some nights they did it together, and some nights they took turns. Hudson was giving Siena space. He also needed to figure out what else he could do to make her happy.
“Hey there.” Siena sat down on the opposite side of the couch.
The night before, she’d curled up next to him, and he’d held her close. Now she put a large space between them. He didn’t know how to fix the issue between them because he wasn’t about to pretend he didn’t love her after saying he did.
In a perfect world, she would say the words back, and they would not be walking on eggshells. Instead, he felt like she held their future in her hands, and she wasn’t sure what to do with it. Neither of them said a word for a few minutes, both lost in thought.
“So we need to talk,” she said, turning and giving him her full attention.
“Nothing good ever comes out of those words.” He grunted. “How about we erase what happened earlier and forget what I said?” Hudson took the last sip of his beer, wishing he had a much stronger drink in his hand for the conversation they were about to have.
“I’m sorry I freaked out earlier. You caught me by surprise.”
“Can we forget what I said?” Even if it’s true. Jesus Christ, why did I have to open my mouth and ruin everything? Maybe it was time for them to actually figure out what to do next.
Siena tapped her fingers on her glass of wine and smiled. “I don’t want to forget what you said. But I think it’s time we stop dodging what this is.”
He nodded and rubbed the back of his neck. “Yes, I just hoped you would fall for me before we had this talk.”
“Fall for you?” She rolled her eyes and scooted closer to him on the couch. Then she put her hands on his chest and kissed him softly.
He wanted to reach around her and pull her in close, but they did need to talk. He didn’t know if having her in his arms would make the conversation easier or harder.
She rested her head against his chest. “It’s so hard to think when I’m close to you.”
It was hard to think when his dick was painfully hard, which seemed to happen every time she walked into the room. “We could solve our problems in the bedroom.” He pushed a strand of her blond hair behind her ear.
Siena barked out a laugh. “The bedroom has never been a place that we struggled with. Your wicked tongue makes me forget about everything in the world. And we can’t keep solving our problems between the sheets.”
“We can agree to disagree,” he said dryly.
She snorted. “We need to discuss our future. I’ve kept something from you, and I’m not sure how you are going to feel.”
“Nothing can change how I feel about you.”
Siena nodded and wrung her hands. “You know how I told you my pregnancy with Mia was really bad. I spent a lot of time in and out of the hospital.” Hudson knew the story would get worse. He nodded. “The delivery didn’t go any better than the pregnancy. Luckily, I was already in the hospital the night I went into labor. A nurse woke me up in the middle of the night because the sheets were covered in blood. She called the doctor, and they rushed me into surgery. A perfect little girl came into the world, but I won’t be able to have another one.” Hudson reached out and wiped the tears from her eyes, and Siena continued her story. “The doctor told me when I came to that they had to remove my uterus because he couldn’t stop the bleeding. If he hadn’t done that, I would be dead.”
Hudson drew Siena into his arms and held her close. It was his fault she’d gone through all of that alone. He
