me forget everything when I’m in your arms,” she said.
“Siena,” Hudson whispered before he took a step back. “Us together was never the issue.”
“I agree that we were great together. I’m trying to forget that you left us and didn’t give me the option of saying goodbye. Or moving with you. Over the past week, I wondered if you thought I wouldn’t be good enough for Kaiden or you.”
“That wasn’t the case at all. I didn’t want to burden you with a teenager. You had a life, and I had to settle down.”
“We never talked about the future, only what we planned to eat that night or over the weekend. Nothing past that. So, I don’t know why it hurt so much when you left. It wasn’t like you made a promise. Hell, we never even officially said we were dating. I just assumed it, and I guess that makes me a fool. I thought we were different. Instead, I was a passing moment in your life. And honestly, if it weren’t for Mia, would you be standing here right now?”
Her words felt like a cold slap. “I thought about you all the time. Yes, I would be here right now. Do you not remember that I asked for you to go have dinner with me, but when I found out about the trouble, I showed up at your house? You’re all I think about. Yes, I’m the one that left, but my heart stayed with you. If I had a time machine, I would change so much about what I did.”
“The thing is, would we have lasted anyway? We were only together for six months,” she said.
His gaze shot to her eyes. “I planned to marry you.”
“Those are just words, Hudson. We never talked about marriage. Don’t you think we should’ve talked about living together before that? It was a whirlwind, but Mia came out of it. And she is the most important thing in the world.”
“She is one of the most important things in the world to me also, but so are you, Siena. You might not believe I planned to marry you, but I did.”
Silence followed his words. He could see her trying to understand the fact that he saw a future with her but fucked it up.
“We can’t change the past or go back,” she said.
“No, we can’t, but we can create a new future. You, Mia, Kaiden—that’s our new future, because Kaiden and I are a package deal.”
“I would never make you choose between Mia and Kaiden.”
“I know.”
“But we can’t pick up where we left off. We need to take this one day at a time. When my threat is gone, I plan to move back into my house. We can date, and you can have time with Mia alone.”
“Maybe I can find a house closer to yours.” He held up his hand. “The house I’m in will be Kaiden’s. I’m not taking any of his inheritance. Once he graduates, he can decide what to do with it himself.”
“Can I try something? We might be looking at something between us that’s not even there.”
“You can try anything.” His brows pinched together. He wasn’t quite sure what she was planning…until she took a step forward and pressed her lips to his.
He felt like a fire was coursing through his body. He folded her in his arms, pulling her closer. God, I missed her touch. How could I have ever walked away from her?
This was the woman he loved, the one he planned to marry. And her lips against his made him lose all rational thought. He wanted to take things slowly and not scare her away, except his body wanted to carry her to the nearest bed and have his way with her.
She kissed him back as he swiped his tongue in her mouth. When she tried to lean back, he tightened his arms around her, and she melted into his chest. His erection pushed against his zipper, making it painfully uncomfortable. When he gripped her ass, she wrapped her legs around his waist.
He didn’t want to make a mistake and cause more distance, so he drew back from the kiss. “We need to talk,” he whispered against her lips.
“I don’t want to talk.” She pushed her hips forward.
“Are you sure about this?” he said before kissing down the side of her neck.
“Please make me forget,” she groaned.
“I can’t think with your body pressed against mine,” he murmured.
“Then don’t. Kiss me instead.”
He didn’t have to be
