helped her explain to the detective about the drugs Kyle was after. They’d brought a drug dog to her home and searched the place from top to bottom. Nothing was found, not even evidence that there had been drugs at any time in her house. The dog handler believed that at least a trace would be somewhere if pounds of drugs had been hidden there.
“Your son is not my problem. And you fired me. I’m not sure what else you want from me.”
“I don’t care about my son. He’s not the reason I’m here.”
Siena flinched as he shot forward and pressed both of his hands to her desk, leaning so close she could smell whiskey on his breath. She worried he might make up another story and she would lose her job at the public school. He can take away my job, but I won’t show him any weakness.
Siena pushed back and stood. Her heart raced as she reached for her phone, but Mr. Robles covered it with his hand. “You need to come back to Klineback Academy, starting tomorrow. I’ve already talked to your principal, and he agreed it would be a great job for you. He’ll find your replacement.” He glared at her.
Siena barked out a laugh. “You fired me, and now you want me back at your school? Not going to happen. I’m happy where I am.”
Siena was impressed that she’d kept her voice from shaking. She was scared shitless. The only reason Edward would want her back at the school would be because of complaints from other teachers or something to do with his son being arrested. He’d said it had nothing to do with his son, but she wasn’t one hundred percent convinced about that.
“Not going to happen,” Siena repeated. She sighed and sat back down. He could demand all he wanted, but she would never set foot in that school again.
“You seem to not understand that this is not an option.” He paused and took a deep breath. “The men my son stole from want certain things. They need the debts paid off, and for you to do that, you need to make sure things go smoothly at the next transport.”
Her eyes widened. “Wait, you want me to move drugs at the school? Like your son was doing?”
Mr. Robles rolled his eyes. “You really think my good-for-nothing son was smart enough to move drugs?”
Siena didn’t like the coldness in his voice. She’d seen him treat Kyle like shit, but she hadn’t known he was part of the drug operation. The men must still have been watching her. The cops had said everything was clear, but it wasn’t. She was still in danger. And Hudson was out of the country.
“I don’t know how to make drugs,” she said.
She’d never even tried drugs. During her modeling years, many of the women snorted cocaine, but Siena never wanted to put the drugs in her body. Instead, she spent extra hours at the gym, staying in shape and eating healthy food with no salt while the other women stayed up for days partying and sniffing anything they could get their hands on.
“I already took care of that part,” he said. “Now I just need someone to hand the drugs over. I don’t trust my new cook enough. So, it looks like it’s going to be you.”
Siena hesitated.
“You think your new boyfriend can stop me from taking your daughter?” Edward asked again impatiently.
“Leave my daughter out of this,” Siena yelled, taking a step around her desk. She needed to get home.
“Where the hell do you think you're going?” he asked, grabbing her arm.
When she tried to pull away, his grip tightened, causing his nails to dig into her skin. Her stomach dropped. This was bad. She wanted Hudson to tell her everything would be okay. But he was miles away. Siena took a deep breath, clearing her mind, and then struck her arm down on his and pushed him away. He grunted before charging her and pressing her against the wall.
His hands went to her throat, cutting off her air. She clawed at them, trying to release his grip a tiny bit so she could breathe. The outer part of her vision faded to black. She lifted her leg and kicked out, connecting with his balls. For a second, his grip released, letting her take in a deep breath.
Then Edward gripped her throat tighter and leaned forward. “Siena, you don’t have a choice in this. My bosses want you
