A Crown Of Smoke And Ash - Sloane Murphy Page 0,60
doesn’t mean that the others will instantly accept me as Roman’s mate either, even though we haven’t redone the markings yet.
He leans over the bed, and grabs his own bag, which is practically empty, and laughs at my wide eyed gaze. “Anything I need is already at the house.” He leans down to grab my bag too, and then puts his arm around over my shoulder.
We head to the sitting room, where I find the guys all waiting for us. I feel a little sad and apprehensive about being away from them with so much going on. Just about being away from them in general. They’ve not been around for long, but I’ve come to rely on the fact that they will each be there.
“You guys all ready?” Creek asks with a soft smile, as if reading my mind, and I nod.
“Come on, we’ll go get the truck started.” Roman kisses the side of my head before releasing me from his grasp. “I’ll meet you outside.” He nods to the others, then him and Creek head outside, leaving me with Kain and Levi.
“You won’t be gone long, mon amour,” Kain says, before coming to hug me. Really, we had our goodbye earlier, so he kisses my neck softly, right over the marks that still linger on my skin, before leaving the room. Leaving me with Levi.
“Be safe, Angel,” he tells me, his eyes unreadable pools of emotion. He crosses the room and hugs me tightly. “Do not let that pup push you into doing anything stupid or reckless, you hear me? We’ll get to the bottom of things as much as we can here, but until I know how much Angel glass they have, what the fuck it is we’ve stepped into, I can’t risk you. I’ve lost you too many times to lose you again.”
He kisses me, his mouth a fire that consumes me, filling every inch of me with his heat. I don’t know why I feel so sad, I know I’ll only be gone a few days, a few weeks at most. Then I’ll be back, before I head off with Kain, but still. His hand touches his mark on the back of my neck and trails down my arm.
“When you get back, I’ll explain this to you, and everything that it means,” he says softly against my lips, and I surrender myself to him again. Letting him feel just how much I love him.
“Don’t get yourself killed, please. Angel glass is just as lethal to you as it is to me,” I tell him as I hug him tight.
The thought of something happening to any of them while I’m gone, I can’t even grasp what it would do to me. They’re all warriors, immortal or not, but with Angel glass in play, each of them now has something that could take them away from me forever. A shadow covers my heart at the thought, but Levi pulls back from me.
“Go Angel. And don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere. None of us are.” He smacks my ass lightly, pushing me towards the hall to the front of the house.
I look back, and find an empty space where he was standing.
I don’t know why this feels like goodbye, but I hate that it does.
Chapter Fourteen
I sit on the private plane Roman said is his, and just gape. I mean, straight up, jaw to the floor, gape. I’ve never even flown, but I know that this is a cut above. The cream leather seats, of which there are only eight. The wooden tables, the bench, or bed, or whatever you want to call it. The shower in the back.
This is a type of luxury I have never known, but this is how he travels. To look at him, you’d never suspect it. He looks rough and ready, not like a guy with a private plane. It’s hard joining the two images of him in my mind.
“You ready for take off, Princess?” he asks, and I gulp, suddenly nervous.
“Not really,” I say, gripping the arms of the chair tightly, not sure what to expect.
“Just relax. Theron has flown for longer than I care to think.”
“Your beta is flying the plane?” I ask, shock rippling through me.
“He is,” Roman nods with a sly grin. “He won’t let anything happen to us.”
Roman laughs at the squeak that escapes me as the plane starts to move. “Relax, Remy. Everything will be fine. I swear it.”
